All my life, I was lucky enough to be told by my parents to follow my dreams and do what I love. I know some people don’t have that and are pushed into career paths they don’t really get to choose, or people who don’t know what their passion is so they leap into something they know they’re not passionate about.
I think it’s so important to do what you love and love what you do. At the end of the day, it’s you who has to wake up every single morning and work in whatever field you’re working in, so you might as well do what makes you happy. I know some people don’t know where to start, so I compiled some quotes that have inspired me in my career endeavours.
1. What do you love?
First, you must find what you’re passionate about. You usually do things better if you enjoy what you’re doing.
“Close your eyes and imagine the best version of you possible. That’s who you really are, let go of any part of you that doesn’t believe it.” –C. Assaad
“I grasped two things: I wasn’t as happy as I could be, and my life wasn’t going to change unless I made it change.” –Gretchen Rubin, The Happiness Project
“Every path in life is uncertain, so might as well do what you love.” –Meryl Streep
It’s you who has to put in the effort to make yourself happy. If you’re not happy with where you are, it’s you who has to make things change. If you’re worried that you’re not going to be able to sustain yourself or be successful, just know that nothing in life is certain. The most important thing is to set goals and work hard for them.
2. Set your goals
“It isn’t sufficient just to want – you’ve got to ask yourself what you are going to do to get the things you want.” –Franklin D. Roosevelt
“Always go with the choice that scares you the most, because that’s the one that is going to require the most from you.” –Caroline Myss
“A good goal should scare you a little and excite you a lot.” –Chris Soriano
If you want something, it’s essential to set goals and figure out what you’re going to do and how you’re going to get there. Set your goals, work hard to achieve them, and just go for it.
3. Work hard for it
“You’re never going to be 100% ready and it’s never going to be just the right time, but that’s the point. It means that every moment is also the right moment. If you want it, you just have to do it.” –Anonymous
“What is the point of being alive if you don’t at least try to do something remarkable?” –John Green, An Abundance of Katherines
Work hard for yourself and achieve things that make you feel successful. Something remarkable could be as simple as waking up happy everyday.
4. If at first you don’t succeed…
“I’ve survived a lot of things, and I’ll probably survive this.” –J. D. Salinger
“Go for it. Whether it ends good or bad, it was an experience.” –Anonymous
“Edit your life frequently and ruthlessly. It’s your masterpiece after all.” –Nathan W. Morris
You’re not always going to achieve your goals the first time. If you keep trying, you will get somewhere. You won’t always 100% achieve your goals either, but no matter what, you’re gaining experience and learning from it. You can mould your life according to your successes and failures. It’s your life you’re living, so you might as well make the best of it.
