What to Wear to the Osheaga Music Festival

Looking for outfit ideas and what to wear to the Osheaga Music Festival in Montreal?

I love dressing up for music festivals, and it’s probably my favourite part of even attending them.

I’ve been to Osheaga twice now (2016 and 2018), and it’s one of my fave music festivals.

Here are some Osheaga outfit ideas (featuring actual outfits I wore) in case you need inspiration on what to wear to the festival!

Hotels in Montreal

There are plenty of great hotels in Montreal you can stay at:

  • Hotel Monville is a chic and contemporary 4-star hotel located right in the middle between downtown and the Old Port.
  • Hotel Omni Mont-Royal is a beautiful 4-star hotel with an incredible rooftop terrace and pool, and it’s located near Mount Royal Park.
  • Fairmont The Queen Elizabeth is a luxurious 4-star hotel that’s located right downtown by the Bell Centre. Fun fact: John Lennon & Yoko Ono recorded “Give Peace a Chance” in one of the suites here, and you can stay in it!

Osheaga Music Festival tips

When does Osheaga happen?

The Osheaga Music Festival typically happens in Montreal every July for 3 days, or a whole weekend.

How much are Osheaga tickets and passes?

A general admission weekend pass to Osheaga is $335 per person.

They also have a Gold Pass for $600 per person or Platinum Pass for $1,300 per person.

The Gold and Platinum Passes give you access to a private terrace (the one I experienced with Bell), private washrooms (SO nice), exclusive food and beverage stands (less lines).

Obviously it’s quite expensive for the Gold and Platinum Passes, and I totally think the whole point of going to a music festival is experiencing everything from the long lines to getting right in the crowds.

They also have single day tickets for each day of Osheaga, and those are typically around $100.

Should I visit Osheaga for one day or the whole weekend?

I went for the whole weekend the first time I visited, and I only visited for one day the second time.

If you’re visiting with someone who enjoys music festivals and you like a lot of the artists performing, I would recommend going for multiple days.

I’d never gone to a 3-day music festival before Osheaga, and it was actually pretty exhausting.

We also explored Montreal – mostly walking and biking everywhere – so it was a pretty tiring long weekend for us.

If you’re going with someone who isn’t crazy about music festivals, one day will be enough – they’ll be doing a lot of walking, and waiting in line to take the Metro subway each night ain’t fun.

Anyway, I’m a big fan of music festivals, and I would gladly go to them every year if Adam enjoyed them 😛

What to wear to Osheaga

Light clothing

You’re going to be hot and sweaty from being out in the sun all day, so wear light and airy clothing.

Crop tops, shorts, and all that good stuff.

You should probably take this literally too, because wearing all black ain’t fun when the sun’s beating down on ya.

Closed toe footwear

Cute sandals are fun and all, but it ain’t nice when you get stepped on all over by other festival-goers.

Sneakers are probably the best option because they’re light and comfortable.

Classic white Chucks are my go-to, but a comfy pair of runners will do you a lot better with all the walking involved at the festival.

Doc Martens would also make for some cool festival outfits, but your feet will get really sweaty (and full of blisters).

Sunglasses

Sunglasses can make for cute music festival outfits, but they can also help to keep the sun from burning your eyeballs off.

Bonus points if you can match your sunnies to each of your Osheaga outfits!

Fanny pack or crossbody bag

As cute and easy as backpacks can be, you don’t want people digging through your bag when you’re jammin’ to the music.

I would opt for a fanny pack or crossbody bag (wear it across your body, not your shoulder!) so that you can always hold onto it or have it within eyesight.

Plus, it’ll be harder for anyone to rip it off your body if you somehow get unlucky.

Top: O-Mighty (similar from Urban Outfitters) | Shorts: Bitchin’ and Junkfood (similar from Urban Outfitters) | Shoes: Converse | Sunglasses: Hong Kong (similar from Ray Ban)

Crop top + high waisted denim shorts

Adam used to call me Yung Lam (my “rapper name”) as a joke so I thought this top was hilarious lol.

I paired it with these badass denim shorts from the brand Bitchin’ and Junkfood, some colourful sunnies ($1 in Hong Kong!), and my staple white Chucks.

Since it was the first day of the festival, there were tons of brand activations, and we got a lot of free stuff – they were giving out free pairs of Vans and NYX liquid lipsticks!

We saw Half Moon Run, The Lumineers, and the Red Hot Chili Peppers on this day.

Despite the weather app telling us it was going to rain everyday, it was sunny all weekend long at Osheaga – we got lucky!

Bodysuit + printed shorts

I bought this outfit combination specifically with the intention of wearing them together, and I thought it was the perfect music festival outfit.

Shay said this outfit was very Lana Del Rey, which was funny because we saw Lana Del Rey perform that night.

I’m also wearing another pair of sunnies I got in Hong Kong for $1!

We actually decided to explore Montreal during the day and go to Osheaga in the evening, since we only cared for the artists that were playing later in the day.

We saw Bastille, Death Cab for Cutie, and Lana Del Rey.

Top: Aritzia (similar from Revolve) | Shirt: Toronto Blue Jays | Shorts: Guess | Shoes: Converse | Sunglasses: Hong Kong (similar from Ray Ban)

Sports jersey + crop top + denim shorts

I don’t keep up with baseball at all, but I always thought the white Blue Jays jersey looked really cool.

Adam actually got the jersey for me for my 21st birthday!

I paired it with a white crop tank from Aritzia and light wash denim shorts from Levi’s to go with the whole light-coloured theme.

I also threw on my $1 Hong Kong sunglasses for a lil’ pop of colour.

We went to the festival again in the late afternoon and saw The Strumbellas, M83, and Radiohead.

Top: American Apparel | Jacket: Guess | Shorts: Levi’s | Sunglasses: Ray Ban

Denim jacket + bodysuit + denim shorts

I actually wore this outfit the second time I visited Osheaga in 2018.

I’m wearing the same green bodysuit I wore the previous time I visited, along with a white denim jacket from Guess and white denim shorts from Levi’s.

I went for a cute lil’ denim on denim look, though I was hecka sweaty with the jacket on.

For my sunglasses, I’m wearing a super cute rounded pair from Ray Ban.

Since I was visiting Osheaga with Bell this time, we had this awesome private viewing deck and got to enjoy the performances without getting into the crowds.

Adam’s not one for crowds, so he definitely enjoyed it better this way 😛
