It’s finally holiday season! I can’t believe today is my last official day of classes, and I can’t believe we’re so close to starting 2017. I recently found out “blogmas” was a thing (recently as in 3 days ago), so I’m taking a stab at my first official blogmas this year. I won’t be committing to daily holiday posts because even my current three blog posts a week is a stretch for me, but I’ll be doing various posts here and there. I don’t know if there are rules or anything for blogmas, but yolo my friends.
With holiday season brings holiday parties, and Dixie Outlet Mall challenged me to shop for an entire holiday party look with just $100. I really expected it to be easy, but when you take into account clothing pieces, shoes, and accessories, $100 just isn’t that much. Luckily, Dixie has a whole bunch of stores that sell things for less, so if you don’t want to spend a whole lot on a holiday party outfit, it’s the place to go.
I’m not really a jewelry person anymore so I had no clue how to accessorize. I don’t remember when the last time I wore earrings was, but I decided it would be the best jewelry option to go with my outfit. Fun fact: I used to have 8 ear piercings (including one industrial and one cartilage). I picked up this set of earrings from Ardene for only $6.50. If you think that’s cheap, they actually have a 5 for $10 deal on these!
I knew Forever 21 Under $15 recently opened at Dixie Outlet Mall, and I was so excited that I ran in and bought all of my clothing pieces there without even thinking. Dixie’s got a bunch of other awesome stores worth checking out, including Guess and Sirens.
There weren’t many dress options at Forever 21 Under $15, so I decided to go with a top and skirt combo. This half-sleeve lace-up crop top is actually the most adorable thing ever, and it was only $14.80! I like how the lace-up part isn’t revealing – it’s appropriate even for office holiday parties. They had a nice mustard colour as well, but the colour didn’t really fit me.
I decided to pair the top with this black midi skirt, which is actually such amazing quality for the price ($14.80). The material is very silky and stretchy, and the skirt didn’t ride up or move around at all. Four for you, Forever 21!
I thought this challenge was going to be easy, before I remembered I had to get myself a pair of shoes as well. Adam suggested we check out the shoe section at Guess, and I was prepared to just walk in and out. I was shocked when I saw that they had shoes going for $30 to $50! I’m happy to say that I snagged myself a pair of these babies for only $50.
In case you were wondering why my left shoe strap is twisted and my heels are coated in mud, it was super cold outside and we just wanted to shoot as quickly as possible.
I’d totally wear this outfit to a casual holiday work party, gathering with friends, or a family dinner. It’s very simple yet elegant, and it makes me look taller than I actually am. Although this outfit isn’t the fanciest of holiday party outfits, these pieces are things I could totally wear everyday, and who likes to buy a dress and only wear it once?
