I don’t know how sick people are of seeing posts about 2016 (they’ve taken over my feed), but I thought it’d be fun to share the stories behind my top 9 most liked photos on Instagram. I actually got the idea from Anjerika of bitte.und.danke. and thought it was pretty cute.
I only started taking my Instagram more seriously during the later half of 2016, hence why all of the photos in my top 9 are from this period. Although I’ve been on Instagram since 2011, I used hashtags for the first time in July 2016 – something I really regret, but what can ya do. I highly recommend that you use hashtags if you’re trying to grow your Instagram.
Here are my top 9 most liked photos from 2016.
#1: Marsquest sent me these awesome sunglasses and I shot an OOTD wearing them.
#2: I took part in Dixie Outlet Mall’s $100 Holiday Shopping Challenge. It was the first time I’d ever collaborated with a shopping centre and the first time I’d ever done a challenge on my blog, and I’d be really excited to do something like it again in 2017!
#3: AMI Clubwear sent me some clothing pieces. I’m surprised this is in my top 9 because it’s a pretty grainy photo and I didn’t expect it to do so well.
#4: I have no idea how or why this photo got over 800 likes, but the drink actually wasn’t that good. I took this in the stairwell of my condo, and I ran downstairs right after I took it because I heard someone coming down.
#5: I was shooting photos for Adam at the Harbourfront, so I decided to shoot an OOTD as well. We hadn’t been to the Powerplant in awhile, and the photos turned out really well.
#6: I was going through a rough time and I hadn’t posted in a few days, and I had nothing to post but this selfie. I’ve been trying to post every single day so yes, this was a big deal to me.
#7: Adam and I went to the Toronto Christmas Market. Here’s a funny story for those of you who don’t follow me on Instagram: Adam and I accidentally walked into the pink forest behind us after taking this photo, not knowing there was a whole lineup of people waiting to go inside at the entrance on the other side. We got some pretty good photos out of it, though!
#9: I had the opportunity to work with North York Ink, an amazing new tattoo shop in Toronto. When I got my first tattoo at 17, I wanted to get a new tattoo every year. I got another tattoo done at 18, but I stopped afterwards because I didn’t want to go through the pain again. Three years later, I got my third tattoo, and I’m back to wanting more tattoos again.
Here’s a snapshot of my top 9 most liked photos in 2015. My #1 in 2015 was over 300 likes, and my #1 in 2016 was over 800 likes! I’m super excited to see how much I can grow my Instagram in 2017. I’d love if you followed me on Instagram @jessicailam.
