Easy and Effortless Low-Maintenance Curls for Beginners

I received complimentary press samples, products, or services for this post. As always, all opinions are my own.

I am an absolute mess when it comes to curling my hair. In fact, anything to do with hairstyling is just a no-no for me. Braids? Can’t do. Buns? Can’t do them properly. I’m just the worst when it comes to maintaining my hair, which is why I never do anything to it. I’ve only ever tried using regular hair curlers, and none of them have ever worked for me. I’ve watched a gazillion hair tutorials, but I still can never use curlers properly!

Moonstone Automatic Hair Curler

Irresistible Me sent me this Moonstone Automatic Hair Curler and it looked pretty interesting, so I thought I’d try my luck with it. This curler is perfect for those of us who just can’t work with regular hair curlers. It’s super simple to use! All you have to do is take an inch of hair, put it through the curler, hold it down, and let it do the rest of the work. You can adjust the temperature, timer settings, and curl direction to your needs or liking. There’s a steam option on it as well, but it’s optional.

I got my hair caught inside the curler a few times (pretty painful) because I had my hair all over the place, but I got the hang of it after some practice. This is actually my first time curling a full head of hair – so please don’t be too harsh! I combed it out for the photo because it looked a lot weirder before. Here are some before and after photos (sorry for the awkward bump in my hair – I slept on it weird haha):

I decided to tie it all up in a ponytail and it looked a lot better. I’m definitely going to have to keep practicing to curl my hair with the Moonstone curler, and I’ll be tying it up until it looks decent enough to not have to haha. I’m just glad that the curler does all the tedious work for me! I highly recommend it for anyone else who sucks at curling their hair and just wants simple, low-maintenance curls.

I also practiced shooting in raw and manual for the feature photo and photo below, which was one of my goals for 2017! I have no idea if I’m doing it properly but the photos don’t look as grainy as the other practice shots I took, which I’m happy about. Thanks for reading, friends! I’d love if you could follow me on Bloglovin. Until next time!

I’ve always wondered if these things work. I have very thick hair and was worried it would get tangled inside. Love your curls. I may have to give this a try. How long did it take to do your whole head?

    • When I started using it I was putting in big chunks of hair, and it wasn’t curling at all! The manual says to put in 1 inch of hair haha. I didn’t see how long it took, but minus all the times I messed up, I’d say probably 15-30 minutes!

  • What?! This looks so cool! I want to try it!

    Rachel | The Confused Millennial

    • Haha it’s pretty intimidating to use at first but it is cool!

  • Kristine Circenis

I’m super intrigued by this device! Produces great curls!

  • This is super neat! Never heard of it before. My mother-in-law is also my hair stylist, so I always get to try neat products out!

    • That’s so awesome Summer! Thanks for reading 🙂

  • The curls look great – especially when you tie them back. I love that messy, wavy look so much. Nice work, girl! 🙂

  • I so wish I could use this but my hair is too short! I think it works best with people with gorgeous long hair like yours! Good to know it’s easy to use – hopefully if I decide to grow my hair back out I’ll try it out! 🙂

    • I actually cut my hair the day after I shot photos for this haha, I’ll be trying it out on my shorter hair as well! 🙂

  • Belle Bermudez-Tubel

We’re pretty much the same! I’ve always wanted to get a curling iron but have been very nervous about it because I’m afraid I won’t be able to use it properly. Lol. Love your hair!

    Belle | One Awesome Momma

    • I don’t know what it is with me and curlers but I’m glad I’m not alone lol! I always think it’s my dry, thin hair but hairdressers are always able to curl my hair so it’s definitely me and not my hair haha!

  • I’d be so afraid to try this but this is a great post. Your hair is longer than mine so if you can do it, so can I! lol P.S. LOVE your tattoo! 🙂

    • Haha, I was at first too because I was terrified of getting my hair caught in it (which really did happen lol)! I cut my hair the day after this post so I’ll be trying it out on my shorter hair as well! Thanks Megan! xo
