Ice skating at Nathan Phillips Square in Toronto

Ice skating at Nathan Phillips Square

Braving out the winter cold ain’t fun, but it’s definitely worth it for a cute Valentine’s Day ice skating date.

Nathan Phillips Square is probably the most popular skating rink in Toronto, and the “Toronto” sign they added back in 2015 makes it all the more cuter!

Afterwards, you can warm up at one of the best restaurants along Queen Street for a special Valentine’s Day meal.

If you’re looking for somewhere a little more unique, you can go ice skating at The Bentway instead, which is underneath the Gardiner.

Side note: UNIQLO’s HEATTECH base layers are awesome for providing extra warmth, and they’re a great gift option if you’re looking for a functional Valentine’s Day gift idea!

Guided tasting tour at St. Lawrence Market

If you and your S/O are more into day dates than nights out, a guided tasting tour at St. Lawrence Market is the perfect Valentine’s Day date idea.

If you’d rather explore yourselves, you can simply wander around and sample everything from cheeses, to wines, to mustards.

You can shop plenty of interesting cheeses to take home with you.

I did the guided tasting tour as part of a story assignment I was doing with Lonely Planet a few years ago, and Adam and I had so much fun!

If you’re exploring St. Lawrence Market on your own, be sure to grab an authentic Montreal bagel at St. Urbain Bagel and fresh perogies at European Delight.

St. Lawrence Market is open everyday except for Mondays, and it’s a lot less busy during the week than on the weekends if you’re looking to avoid the crowds!

There are also plenty of incredible restaurants in the St. Lawrence Market neighbourhood, also known as Old Town Toronto (the oldest neighbourhood in Toronto!)

Distillery District, Toronto

Stroll through the Distillery District

The Distillery District ain’t just cute during the holiday season – it’s a fun neighbourhood to explore year-round!

Spend this Valentine’s Day strolling through the historic cobblestone streets and dine at one of the best restaurants in the neighbourhood.

There are plenty of fun activities you can do in the Distillery District as well, like a segway tour around the neighbourhood or a candle-making workshop at Yummi Candles!

Ripley's Aquarium of Canada in Toronto

Explore Ripley’s Aquarium

Valentine’s Day is the perfect excuse to do something fun and touristy like visiting Ripley’s Aquarium.

I’ve been to Ripley’s Aquarium several times since they opened in Toronto almost a decade ago, and every single time has been super fun!

Ripley's Aquarium of Canada in Toronto

The aquarium is huge, and there are so many unique fish and sea creatures to see.

My fave parts of the aquarium are definitely seeing all the sharks (a lil scary) and jellyfish (so cool).

Spend a couple of hours exploring the aquarium with your beau, then hit up one of the many amazing restaurants in the Entertainment District.

Ripley’s is actually hosting a special Valentine’s Day dinner at the aquarium, though tickets are completely sold out for the night!

You can’t not have fun while at the Rec Room, and it’s a fun Valentine’s Day date idea you can do with your S/O.

It’s warm inside, there’s an arcade full of games, and the food and drinks are pretty good!

How The Rec Room works is that you buy a game tag which you can load with game credits, and you can bring it every time you visit.

You can play arcade games using the game credits, and collect reward points towards a prize.

The game credits and reward points never expire, so you can keep coming back and save for the perfect prize for your S/O!

Anime Candlelight Concert in Toronto

Candlelight Concert in Toronto

I first heard of Fever’s Candlelight Concerts when I saw an ad about their anime concert, and I’ve been dying to go ever since.

It’s basically a live instrumental performance where you’re surrounded by hundreds of candles, which is pretty romantic!

Hear iconic film scores like “My Heart Will Go On” from the Titanic movie and songs from Romeo and Juliet.

Check out their special Valentine’s Day concert or Valentine’s R&B concert featuring singer Zenesoul.

Hotel X Toronto by Library Hotel Collection

Romantic staycation at a boutique hotel

Sweep your beau off their feet with a quick and romantic weekend staycation at a local boutique hotel in Toronto.

The Broadview Hotel is housed in a stunning historic Victorian building in the east end of Toronto, and they’ve got a gorgeous bistro on the main floor.

It’s not far from Tabule (an amazing Middle Eastern restaurant in Riverside), and you can even do a little thrift shopping at Common Sort and Value Village nearby (matching couple outfits, anyone?)

Gladstone House is another lovely boutique hotel in Toronto’s artsy West Queen West neighbourhood, and it’s also housed in a historic Victorian building.

West Queen West is home to some of the best restaurants in Toronto, and I absolutely adore The Good Son and Fonda Lola (amazing Mexican cuisine).

If you’re up for some vintage shopping, House of Vintage and Public Butter are both in the area!

And if you want to take a little winter stroll, Trinity Bellwoods is about a 15 minute walk from Gladstone House.
