How You Can Get Monthly Meat Deliveries with truLOCAL

How You Can Get Monthly Meat Deliveries with truLOCAL

I received complimentary press samples, products, or services. As always, all opinions are my own.

Does anyone else hate making trips to the grocery store? I live right across the street from one, but I still don’t like going. I’m usually more of a stay-in-and-order-Foodora (P.S. you can get $10 off your first order here) kind of girl… However, truLOCAL recently sent me one of their boxes to try, and I was very excited about not having to make trips to the grocery store for awhile.

If you haven’t heard of truLOCAL, they deliver clean, locally-sourced meats right to your door. All of their meats are 100% local, free run, antibiotic-free, with no added hormones! Plus, they ship anywhere in Ontario for free, and you can get it shipped to your house, apartment, office, gym, or even cottage. What better way to celebrate #Canada150 than to support local businesses and farms?

Here’s how truLOCAL works:

  1. Choose between the small box ($125) or regular box ($249)
  2. Choose the delivery frequency (every 2 weeks, every 3 weeks, once a month, or every 6 weeks)
  3. Fill up your box by customizing it with meats of your choice
  4. Get it delivered!

Each meat product is worth a certain number of points, and you can fill up your box up to a maximum number depending on the box size. For example, a package of bacon is 1 point, while three top sirloin steaks are 3 points. The small box gives you up to 9 points and the regular box gives you up to 20.

Inside the box is a refrigerated cooler with dry ice, which keeps your meats frozen until you get home. Be sure to wear oven mitts or use a towel when removing the dry ice!

Once you remove it, you’ll find all the glorious meats, packaged individually to easily store in your freezer. My freezer is very tiny (you can see it in the header image of this post), and everything fit perfectly inside. You’ll also never have to worry about freezer burn with the premium packaging.

I got the small box, and here’s what was inside: 1 package of bacon, 1 package of breakfast sausages, 1 package of garlic sausages, 1 package of ground chicken, 1 package of lean ground beef, 4 boneless skinless chicken breasts, and 10-12 boneless skinless chicken thighs.

I received the box 9 days ago and we still have some breakfast sausages, the ground chicken, and the ground beef, so it’s safe to say that it will have lasted us about two weeks. Adam and I eat a lot of meat (I pretty much never eat veggies), so how long it lasts depends on how often you cook and how often you eat meat.

Here’s a meal I made for Adam and I featuring the chicken breast with General Tao/honey garlic sauce (absolutely delicious) and garlic sausage (even more delicious). Fun fact: my meals are not usually this extravagant. I used to cook just chicken breast for dinner… I really enjoyed cooking this meal though, and I’ve been cooking more full meals since!

I definitely recommend truLOCAL if you don’t like making trips to the grocery store or if you’re too busy to make them. For more information on truLOCAL, you can visit their website.

So did you not reflect on the pricing in your review at all?

Do you think it’s fantastic that they charge $12.50 / LB for ground beaf? $62.50 for 3 Strip Loing Steaks?

They use a convoluted points scheme with the sole intention of confusing the consumer, 1 point = 12.50 1lb of ground beef = 1point 3 steaks = 5 points.

Do the math, TruLocal is nothing more than a vacuum packed scam.

I’m always up for anything that saves me time and bonus that there are no added hormones!

This service looks very convenient! Very nice too when the weather is not good.

  • I need this in my life! Being in a rural area, even though it’s the largest agricultural county in Kentucky, we are never included in the service areas for things like this. So hope it changes soon!

This is awesome! We used to do a produce co-op, but they discontinued it in our area. I would love to get in on something like this!

  • Ok this is so perfect for me because I absolutely DESPISE grocery shopping. I always make my boyfriend, Kevin do it hahaha. I just used Amazon Prime Now the other day for my groceries and it was so convenient. This looks like a great option for meat! Thanks for sharing!

    • Amazon delivers groceries as well?! You’ve just changed my life hahaha

  • I love that the meat is antibiotic-free and no added hormones! Also, garlic sausage sounds amazing!

I’m right there with you on trips to the grocery store! What a wonderful service – thanks for all of the details. Sounds like it is worth looking into!

  • Sam Temsah-Deniskin

Oh never heard of them! Have to try!

  • Wow this sounds amazing! I’ve been trying to cut most meats from my budget (though not necessarily my diet) but this has me really tempted. I love that all the meats are locally sourced!

    • Eating meat does get pretty expensive, but it’s all I eat haha – I need to work on eating more veggies!

  • Wow, what a neat service! And omg the meal you made looks so delicious
