Lash extensions have been wildly popular over the last year, and I’ve been debating forever about getting them. They’re expensive and they’re very high maintenance to take care of, so I decided I wanted to try a lash lift and tint before trying out lash extensions. It’s been around two months since I’ve gotten my lash lift and tint, so I thought I’d do a little review and update.

For those of you who don’t know what a lash lift is, it’s a lash perm that keeps your lashes curled for up to two months. It’s been just over two months, and my lash lift is still going strong!

The Process

I went to a local lash salon here in Toronto called Fabulash, and it cost $70 for a lash lift and $5 for a lash tint (they’ve since raised the price to $10). The process took around an hour, and it was pretty comfortable.

Side note: as much as I love my Invisibobble hair ties, I would not recommend wearing them while lying flat in a chair. It put so much pressure on the back of my head that I had a headache the entire time!

I was told by my lash technician not to wash my eyes until 24 hours after the lash lift. She also said not to use and oil-based or waterproof makeup products on my lashes. I googled variations of “mascaras for lash extensions”, and Maybelline’s Great Lash mascara came up. I’ve been using it almost everyday since and my lashes still look great!

As for makeup removal, I use Aveeno’s Positively Radiant wipes and they’ve been doing an awesome job of getting all my makeup off. First Aid’s face cleanser does a great job as well!

Did they last?

I took these photos the day after getting my lash lift. I’d washed my eyes and put on Maybelline’s Great Lash. The lash tint pretty much did nothing on my already-dark Asian lashes, so I wouldn’t recommend it if your lashes are naturally dark like mine.

This is how my lashes look now, about two months later. As you can see, they lasted pretty well! A few hairs have fallen down, but many of them are still lifted.

Was a lash lift and tint worth it?

If you’ve got naturally long but straight lashes like mine, I’d say a lash lift is a much more affordable idea than lash extensions. Lash curlers never seem to work on me, and my lash lift has kept my lashes nice and curly. I definitely do not think the lash tint was worth it – it did nothing to my lashes, which are already naturally dark!

I do hope to get lash extensions eventually, but I have to wait until my lash lift falls down. I’ll be getting my eyebrows microbladed next month and will be doing a post on that as well – so stay tuned if you’re interested in seeing more about that!

  • I’ve been wondering about this! Also curious about lash extensions. I think I’d try the lash lift first and see how that goes. I’m interested in seeing how you like your microbladed brows! I’ve got mine done and it’s the best thing I’ve ever done to my face, I think! 🙂

    • I definitely think I made the right choice trying out the lash lift first – I’m going to get lash extensions and see which one I prefer! And that’s good to know haha, I’m really excited!!

  • Wow, I’ve never heard of this before, but this is super cool. Thanks for sharing

    • I didn’t know about it until I was browsing things about lash extensions on Instagram!

Whoa I didn’t know this was a thing! I will definitely want to try this out, especially during the holiday season 🙂

    • Haha it’ll be a nice way to treat yourself!

  • I’ve toyed around with the idea of a lash lift before! I just couldn’t though after hearing one of my friends constantly complaining about how much they cost her 🙁

    • It’s a lot less expensive than lash extensions and that’s how I justify them being worth it haha!

Omg, cannot wait to hear how you get on with the microblading! I know a few people who’ve had it done and loved it! Might have to look into lash tinting…mine are just too light without mascara 🙁

    • I’m nervous but excited to get the microblading done!! If you do end up getting your lashes tinted, hopefully they stay dark enough so you don’t need mascara hahaha!
