Becoming a morning person really is a difficult habit to get into. During my teen years I was a night owl and loved staying up reblogging things on Tumblr, but for the past couple of years, I’ve pretty much been a morning person. Nowadays I almost never sleep in, don’t go out past 9, and am usually in bed by 11. I feel like being a morning person makes me so much more productive throughout the day and I get a lot more done!
Today I’m sharing with you guys some of my tips on how to become a morning person. Stay tuned until the end, because I’ll be giving away something from Canadian Down & Feather Company that will make your sleeps cozier and your mornings much more pleasant!
How to become a morning person
1. Prepare things the night before.
Lay out your outfit, pack your bag, and prepare your breakfast and lunch for the next day. It’ll save you a lot of time and a lot of stress in the morning, and you’ll feel so much more relaxed.
2. Switch out your phone for a good read.
There are a million distractions when it comes to using your phone before bedtime, and even switching to night mode won’t help. For me, I find that reading before bed is much more relaxing for my eyes and it’s much more enjoyable to fall asleep doing.
3. Have a comfy and cozy sleep environment.
Going to sleep is so much easier when you’re comfortable – something I learned the hard way while sleeping on a couch with no blanket or heating in Iceland. Canadian Down & Feather Company’s Gel Microfiber Down Alternative duvet is super warm and because it’s so heavy, it feels like you’re being hugged to sleep. It has a 300 thread count shell and is made of a synthetic polyester fill that mimics the properties of down, so it’s completely machine washable.
4. Get a good night’s rest.
Sleep earlier so you can wake up earlier. The average person needs about 8 hours of sleep a night, so if you have to be up for 7, go to bed at 11. For more tips on how to get a good night’s rest, check out this post by my girl Teresa of The Balance!
5. Set alarms every 15 minutes.
Adam hates the fact that I do this, but I like to set alarms every 15 minutes from the time I want to wake up to the time I absolutely must wake up. If you’re not a morning person, this will surely wake you the heck up and turn you into one!
6. Don’t go on your phone right when you wake up.
If I go on my phone as soon as I wake up, I know I’m going to sit there for half an hour to an hour checking my notifications and browsing social media. Instead, take your phone with you to the bathroom and get ready for work, school, or whatever you have to do that morning. You’ll get to check your phone while being productive at the same time!
7. Workout in the mornings.
I don’t do this anymore, but I would love to get back into the habit of working out in the early mornings. There was a period of time while I was in university that I would wake up super early and get workouts in before my 9 AM classes! I felt very energized throughout the day and it made me enjoy mornings so much more.
8. Coffee, coffee, coffee.
I honestly think I drink coffee more out of habit than necessity, but I’m always in a better mood when I have it! It’s delicious and it’s something I look forward to in the mornings. If you’re not a coffee person, have tea instead.
