5 Ways to Transition Summer Outfits for Fall

5 Ways to Transition Summer Outfits for Fall

Thank you to Nordstrom Canada for sponsoring this post on summer to fall outfits. As always, all opinions are my own.

As much as I love the hustle and bustle of summer in the city, fall is the season I look forward to the most – especially when it comes to planning out my outfits.

Nordstrom is one of my favourite places to shop for clothing and accessories in Canada, and they’ve got plenty of affordable brands you can shop!

I especially love their in-house brand BP. for their affordable pieces, and quite a few of their latest pieces are made using recycled materials.

If you’re looking to plan your late summer to early fall outfits, here are my tips on how to transition your summer look for fall!

Be sure to also follow me on Instagram and TikTok – I share a lot more content on those platforms that don’t make it to the blog!

How to transition your summer outfits for fall

Go for darker colours

For me, summer is all about the whites and brights, while fall is all about the darker and more muted colours.

Military green, burgundy, mustard – these are some of my fave colours to wear in my outfits during the autumn season.

I tend to navigate towards more browns and blacks as well!

For some reason, I seem to navigate towards more bodycon dresses as the weather cools down, and this t-shirt dress from BP. is the perfect fall staple.

It features a cute lil’ front slit, and I love the Olive Sarma colourway.

It also comes in Purple Tulip, Grey Light Heather, and Black!

If you’re not into bodycon dresses, I also love this beige babydoll t-shirt dress, also from BP – it’s made from 100% organic cotton!

Both dresses are only $39, so they’re very affordable!

Add a layer

If it’s not humid as heck outside, throwing on a plaid shirt or jacket can help transition any summer outfit for fall.

A leather jacket over a plain white tee and denim shorts? Cool as heck.

A trench coat over a flowy summer dress? The perfect way to keep wearing your summer dresses through fall.

If it is hot as heck, you can always just tie a plaid shirt around your waist – looks great over pretty much any outfit.

I love this Treasure & Bond navy plaid shirt, and it’s a pretty affordable price at $75.

Layering is one of the main reasons why I love fall fashion – it gives you a lot more room for creativity in your outfits than summer!

Throw on booties

I’m a big shoe lover, and one of my fave things about dressing up for the fall season is all the booties.

You can throw ’em on with a summer dress or just with a simple tee and jeans.

I’m a big fan of combat boots right now, and I’m obsessed with these chunky Steve Madden Betty lace-up boots from Nordstrom Canada.

They were only $115, so pretty dang affordable – plus they’re real leather!

If you’re not into real leather, the Steve Madden Lillia combat boots are another great option.

Steve Madden is one of my favourite footwear brands because of their quality and affordability, and Nordstrom has a huge selection of their shoes.

Dr. Martens also makes awesome combat boots, and the 1460 Pascal Boots are a classic pair of Docs.

Swap out your accessories

I typically rock canvas tote bags and coloured bags throughout the summer, and fall is all about the darker accessories for me.

This faux leather tote bag from the brand Street Level is only $59 and it’s reversible!

It comes in a black/leopard, taupe/ivory, and grey/light grey.

I also adore this faux leather crossbody bag from Street Level ($55 and comes in a few beautiful fall colours) and real leather crossbody bag from Madewell ($125 and it’s real leather!)

Wear darker makeup

If y’all have been following me for long enough, you’ve probably realized my love for darker and more vibrant lipsticks.

I love rocking red and berry lipsticks year-round, but I especially wear them throughout the fall and winter seasons.

MAC Ruby Woo is one of my all-time fave reds and MAC Diva and MAC Rebel are both classic berry shades.

I also tend to darken my eye makeup with more brown and grey shadows!
