Making time for self care activities is extremely important for your physical, mental, and emotional well-being.
You might feel like you don’t have the time for self care activities, but we all make time for things we care about.
Self care should be a priority in your life, and the more you make time for it, the better you feel about yourself and the world around you.
It helps you to feel happier, less stressed, and in my opinion, much more inspired and motivated.
The more you take care of yourself, the happier you’ll be!
There are so many benefits to having a self care routine, and it’s incredible for your well-being.
Here are my favourite self care activities that you can add to your daily routine.
1. Declutter your space
You lay out your junk on the counter, and then it builds up onto another table, and then it starts to take over all the surfaces of your furniture.
Having a messy and cluttered space tends to spike up my anxiety and stress levels, so decluttering is something I try to do every single day.
If you leave stuff out, just remember to put them away the next day.
Having no time to clean is not an excuse – trust me, I’ve used it a thousand times – and a little bit everyday makes the world of a difference.
If your space is cluttered, your mind will feel cluttered, and it just won’t make you feel good.
2. Avoid spending excessive time on social media
I’ve become a pretty confident person over the years, but sometimes I still can’t help but feel bad about myself when I spend too much time on social media.
There’s also quite a bit of negativity out there, and this is why I try not to spend too much time on any platforms.
Social media is part of my work as a freelancer, but when I’m not working, I try to limit it to periodically checking throughout the day.
Also don’t be afraid to unfollow people or accounts that don’t make you feel good.
3. Make an effort to look good
When you look good, you feel good, and that’s the kind of confidence and positivity you need to carry with you every single day.
Whether it’s putting on your fave lipstick or wearing your best outfit, even just a little bit of effort makes a huge difference in how you feel.
Putting effort into making yourself love the way you look is a super easy way to practice self care in your everyday routine!
4. Listen to a podcast
Podcasts are awesome because you can listen to them while multitasking, and you don’t have to focus on the visuals on a screen like with videos.
There are all kinds of podcasts out there in the universe, so there’s something for everyone to listen to.
I love listening to podcasts while I’m getting ready, working, doing chores, and cooking.
5. Read a book
I’ve been reading for as long as I remember.
It’s something I grew up seeing my mom doing a lot, so naturally I became a reader myself.
Reading has always brought me comfort – there’s just something about immersing yourself into another universe.
It’s a completely different experience than sitting on the couch and binge-watching Netflix shows.
Whether you’re into fictional worlds or self-help guides, there’s something out there to make you feel good.
If you’re not into actual reading, try an audiobook!
6. Watch your favourite TV shows
As a big TV and film buff, I always have something running in the background on my phone or TV.
It’s nice to just escape and get that little bit of entertainment without having to actively participate!
7. Do a face mask
I don’t know what it is about face masks, but they’re so darn relaxing.
I used to have this idea in my head that they took too much time, but it’s literally just 10 to 15 minutes every night.
Brush teeth, cleanse face, apply toner and serum, slap on a face mask for however long, go on your phone or even do some reading, take off the mask, then sleep.
You’re probably going to go on your phone before you sleep anyways, so you might as well take advantage of a little self care while you’re at it.
If you want something a little more hands-on, you can use the FOREO UFO to get the effects of a sheet mask in 90 seconds!
8. Take a relaxing bath
Light up a candle and get that hot water running!
If you’re going to take a long shower anyway, you might as well take a bath and make it relaxing.
You can knock three birds with one stone by doing a face mask and reading, listening to a podcast, or watching a TV show.
This is something I don’t do as often as I should, but it’s super important.
Find a little corner to yourself, let your mind be free, and take slow, deep breaths.
Meditating really helps to keep my mind in the right space, especially when I’m feeling anxious.
I like to use meditation apps on my phone – Headspace is a great one.
10. Cook a meal you enjoy
I cook pretty much all of my and Adam’s meals, and I always try to switch it up between different dishes we love to keep it interesting.
Eating the same thing everyday bores me, so it’s therapeutic for me to spend that amount of time making something delicious, and it’s all the more better when Adam enjoys it.
As he says, it’s “made with love”.
Maybe cook up a delicious homemade brunch for the weekend!
