Best dessert places in London’s Chinatown
Mamasons Dirty Ice Cream
Mamasons is London’s very first Filipino ice cream parlour, and they serve up a variety of Filipino treats and desserts.
Halo Halo is probably the most famous Filipino dessert out there, and you can enjoy this traditional shaved ice dessert at Mamasons.
Of course, they’ve also got ice cream, with unique Filipino-inspired flavours like Ube, Queso, and Milo.
Enjoy their ice cream as single scoops, or have it stuffed inside pandesal (a type of Filipino bread)!
If you’re wondering what “dirty ice cream” is, it’s a nickname used to describe ice cream sold on the streets of Manila, and it’s known for being affordable and delicious.
Their iced ube latte (Kape Kulay on the menu) is also delicious, and I probably enjoyed it even more than the ice cream!
They’ve got 3 locations you can visit, including one right in London’s Chinatown.
LOCATION: 32 Newport Ct, London WC2H 7PQ, United Kingdom
Bubblewrap
Enjoy fresh Hong Kong egg waffle cones stuffed with gelato at this little shop in Chinatown.
If you haven’t heard of Hong Kong egg waffles before, they’re a popular street snack made with an egg-based batter, and they’re amazing.
Bubblewrap takes it to the next level with gelato and toppings, and you can take your pick between Asian flavours like House Matcha or more western flavours like Oreo Crunch!
They even have boba milkshakes if you’re in the mood for something to drink instead.
LOCATION: 24 Wardour St, London W1D 6QJ, United Kingdom
Candy Café
Step into a sweet escape at this café known for its variety of Asian desserts.
From sago soups to bubble tea, they’ve got plenty of delicious sweet treats you can enjoy!
Go for their mix & match dessert bowls, where you can choose your base and toppings, with options like grass jelly and coconut sago.
LOCATION: 3 Macclesfield St, London W1D 6AU, United Kingdom
Chinatown Bakery
You can’t go wrong with not-too-sweet Chinese buns and pastries, which you’ll find at Chinatown Bakery.
From custardy egg tarts to fluffy pineapple buns, you’ll find all the classic Chinese buns here.
They’ve also got fresh taiyaki here, which you’ll have to line up separately for.
We didn’t realize and ended up buying taiyaki that was already made in the bakery!
Either way, the red bean taiyaki was one of the best ones we’ve had, so it was still worth it.
LOCATION: 7-9 Newport Pl, London WC2H 7JR, United Kingdom
Tsujiri
Nothing beats matcha ice cream in Asia, but Tsujiri is an Asian dessert chain that makes really great matcha desserts at their locations around the world.
Their entire menu is focused on matcha, from lattes, to sundaes, to bubble teas.
They make probably my favourite matcha soft serve, which has the perfect strong tea flavour!
Tsujiri uses ceremonial-grade, premium, and organic matcha from Shizuoka, which is a region known as the capital of tea production in Japan.
They also have another location in Camden Market!
LOCATION: 33 Newport Ct, London WC2H 7PQ, United Kingdom
The Whale Tea
The Whale Tea may be a big international bubble tea chain, but they’re still worth a visit!
We enjoyed the Sweet Potato, which is a milky drink made with real chunks of purple sweet potato.
You can also adjust the sweetness and ice levels to your liking!
Their Chinatown storefront is actually just a takeout window, so there isn’t any seating here.
They’ve also got 7 locations around London, including this Chinatown location.
Funnily enough, The Whale Tea doesn’t have any locations in Toronto, but they do have a location in London, Ontario.
LOCATION: 45 Wardour St, London W1D 6PZ, United Kingdom
Katsute100
This cute little Japanese café is actually located in Covent Garden, but it’s close enough to Chinatown that I just had to include it.
We randomly stumbled across Katsute100 while browsing UNIQLO, and it’s actually the first-ever café inside a UNIQLO store!
You’ll find it on the second floor, and they serve up a variety of imported Japanese teas and handmade desserts.
My Iced Hojicha Tea was kinda light in flavour, but it was still enjoyable.
The Sakura Mochi was one of the best mochi treats I’ve ever tried – not only was it beautiful, but it was delicious!
LOCATION: 2nd Floor, Uniqlo Covent Garden 19, 20 Long Acre, London WC2E 9LZ, United Kingdom
