Best ice cream places in Calgary

Apricot Almond Tart ice cream from Made by Marcus in Calgary, Alberta

Made by Marcus

You’ll find all kinds of delicious and unique ice cream flavours at Made by Marcus.

Choose from their permanent selection of flavours (I love the Moonshine Brown Butter Pecan and Lemon Curd Blueberry), or go for one of their seasonal flavours.

They have gluten-free and vegan options as well!

All of their ice cream is made from scratch using locally-sourced dairy from grass-fed cows, and they also use real, naturally-grown ingredients produced by local farmers, roasters, and distillers.

I love that the cups and spoons they use are also compostable!

Fun fact: they actually started out making macarons, and when they started making ice cream with the leftover egg yolks, customers just started loving their small-batch ice cream!

They have three locations in Calgary (the OG one is on 17th Avenue) and two locations in Edmonton.

Double scoop waffle cone from Village Ice Cream in the Bridgeland neighbourhood in Calgary, Alberta

Village Ice Cream

This small-batch ice cream shop in Calgary is all about classic flavours with a twist.

Their permanent flavours include Melted Chocolate and Salted Caramel, and they’ve got fun seasonal flavours like Dunkaroos and Boston Cream Pie (vegan).

We tried two of their seasonal options: the Vegan Strawberry Milk Tea (which was very good but just tasted like strawberries) and the Salty Malty Pretzel (which was incredible).

They have 5 locations in Calgary, and their original location is in Victoria Park.

I absolutely adore their Bridgeland location – it’s housed in a beautiful space, with plenty of wood benches to enjoy your ice cream!

Ice cream from Abbey's Creations in Calgary, Alberta
Halo-Halo and Coco Pandan ice cream on a cotton candy waffle cone.

Abbey’s Creations

If you’re a fan of Marble Slab, you’ll definitely love Abbey’s.

How it works here is that you pick your ice cream flavour, they chop it up with your toppings of choice, then top it on your cone or cup of choice!

They’ve got all kinds of fun and exotic flavours, including Ube Queso, Halo-Halo, and Creamy Avocado.

If simple is more your thang, you can go for their Mint Chocolate Chip or Strawberry Shortcake.

Their ice cream tastes a bit lighter, which is great if you’re not into super creamy ice cream!

They’ve also got tons of fun and colourful waffle cones, and we loved their cotton candy cone with Nerds.

If you’ve got any celebrations coming up, they’ve got plenty of delicious ice cream cakes you can pick up.

Amato Gelato

More of a gelato person than an ice cream person?

Amato is your spot for authentic Italian gelato and sorbetto in Calgary, and they’ve got over 72 rotating flavours to choose from.

Go for something classic like Dulce de Leche or Pistachio, or try something more unique like Mango Coconut Marble or Pumpkin Pie!

You can also enjoy other Italian specialties like Affogato and Bomboloni.

They’ve got two locations on Kensington Road and 17th Avenue!

Sweet Tooth Ice Cream

Sweet Tooth is the perfect spot to satisfy your sweet tooth, especially if you’re into rolled ice cream.

They were Calgary’s very first rolled ice cream shop, and they’re been serving up creative flavours at their adorable shop since 2016.

Go for one of their signature rolled ice cream cups like their Cookies & Cream or Mango Beary, or customize your own cup with different toppings.

Almost their entire menu can be made dairy-free using either a base of coconut milk, oat milk, or coconut and oat milk together!

Another interesting thing they have is the Sweet Tooth Pro menu, which is made up of ice cream with Canadian-made protein powder, for fitness peeps counting their calories and macros.

LOCATION: 7-2104 Kensington Rd NW, Calgary, AB

XO Ice Cream and Waffles

Ice cream and waffles are what you’ll find at XO, alongside milkshakes, cakes, and coffee.

They’ve got classic flavours like Chocolate and Espresso, as well as unique flavours like Earl Grey and Strawberry Rhubarb.

All of their ice cream flavours can be turned into milkshakes, and espresso (from local ROSSO Coffee Roasters) can be added to ice cream to make an affogato!

LOCATION: 808, 100 Auburn Meadows Drive S.E. Calgary, AB
