You can never go wrong with wearing all black. However, you may not always want to look like you jumped straight out of 2007 during your teenage emo phase. ‘Cause that was not cute… But it’s possible to still look cute even if you’re dressed in black from head-to-toe. Here are my tips on how to wear all black without looking emo!

1. Add some dainty jewelry
By dainty, I don’t mean cute little skull necklaces (tbh I’d be down to rediscover my emo self, I saw some cute skull-themed jewelry pieces at the Guillermo del Toro exhibit today). If you’re going for a more feminine look, try some pretty jewelry pieces like this antler necklace by Dana Henning Jewelry! You might recognize it from my post on how to wear white on white.
2. Put on a bright coloured lipstick
Skip the nudes, plums, and blacks. Go for something bright like red or pink! I’m wearing Candy Cane by Too Faced (limited edition, dupe by Make Up For Ever here).
3. Wear neutral eye makeup
Did anyone else use to pack on black eyeshadow without blending it out properly? Eek. My everyday eye makeup look is just some light brown eyeshadow, slightly winged liner, and lots of mascara (it’s NEUTRAL not NATURAL okay).
4. Throw on a coloured accessory or two
If you’re not about wearing jewelry or makeup, wear a coloured hat, mittens, scarf, or any other accessory to complement your all black outfit. A pop of colour is always fun!
There’s nothing wrong with looking emo (u do u girl, I still have my emo days here and there) but I thought I’d share with you guys some tips on how to make all black look a little more feminine. Here are a few more of my fave black clothing pieces right now!
How do you guys prefer to wear all black? Feminine or emo? Speaking of emo… I’m just going to leave this here.
