Growing up with cold weather for most of the year means sweaters are absolutely necessary in my capsule wardrobe.
Fall, winter, spring – the only season in Canada where sweaters aren’t necessary is summer.
Toronto has been so darn cold lately, and it’s been so hard to wear anything but sweaters and jeans.
In fact, it’s been so hard to even leave the house, and I’ve been hibernating for the last 3 days.
If I could hibernate all throughout the cold winter, I would, but unfortunately I’ll have to go outside eventually (aka tomorrow).
Today I’m sharing with y’all a few of my fave sweaters at the moment, perfect for adding to your capsule wardrobe!
Capsule wardrobe sweaters
1. Statement sweater
If a plain sweater and jeans is too basic for you, spice it up with a playful sweater like this mustard one from Lankun (similar from Nordstrom)!
It has a semi-sheer heart-shaped neckline, which makes it a bit more flirty and feminine.
It’s super soft and oversized, and really comfy to wear!
I tucked it into these high-waisted plaid trousers from Zara (similar from Nordstrom).
Find a statement sweater that’s also timeless, so you can rock it every season, every year.
Stripes, florals, animal print – whatever statement style fits your flavour!
2. Crewneck sweater
This basic alpaca crewneck sweater from Everlane is probably my most-worn sweater in my wardrobe, just because it’s so easy to throw on.
It’s a neutral colour and the simple fit allows it to pair with anything, from jeans (these are from Citizens of Humanity) to even skirts!
I’ve just been pairing it with jeans because 1. I’m lazy and 2. it’s too cold to plan out my outfits.
This Everlane sweatshirt is so comfy and warm, and it’s made out of discarded plastic bottles!
99% of products from Everlane’s ReNew line are made with 15 to 60 discarded plastic bottles, which would’ve ended up in landfills.
I’m trying to make more sustainable fashion choices, and I love what Everlane stands for.
For this one, I would say to size up for a more comfy and oversized fit – I’m wearing my actual size here, and I definitely could’ve gone a size up.
You can easily pair this sweatshirt with jeans (similar from Nordstrom) or sweatpants.
4. Oversized turtleneck
I’ve actually had this oversized wool turtleneck from Aritzia (similar from Nordstrom) for awhile, but it’s such a classic and timeless piece.
I got it when Drake’s “Hotline Bling” music video came out, and Adam called it my Drake sweater.
You can wear it untucked over some black leggings (it’s all about COMFORT, ma dude), or tuck it into some jeans (similar from Nordstrom) like I did here.
I wore these red booties from Aldo (similar from Nordstrom) for a little pop of colour.
5. Ribbed turtleneck
A style you’ll see me wearing often in the fall and winter is turtlenecks, and I think they’re an absolute essential in every Canadian girl’s closet.
Ribbed turtlenecks are perfect for your capsule wardrobe, and they pretty much go with any and every pair of bottoms.
You can also layer them under so many different outfits, to give you that extra bit of warmth!
This ribbed turtleneck from UNIQLO is decently priced, warm, and great quality.
Most of my turtlenecks are neutral or muted colours, so I decided to pick up a more bold colour this fall/winter!
Red is a colour that never goes out of style, and it’s also perfect for the holiday season.
I styled it with a pair of plaid trousers from Zara (similar from Nordstrom).
