Best restaurants in Banff, Alberta

Trailhead Cafe
Looking for somewhere to eat in Banff that’s quick, tasty, and decently-priced?
The sandwiches at Trailhead Cafe are oh-so-delicious, and it’s probably one of the most affordable places to eat that you’ll find in Banff.
It’s a family-operated cafe that serves up fairtrade coffee (from Calgary-based Fratello’s), baked goods, and sandwiches, and they’re located in Lake Louise.
Trailhead Cafe has very minimal seating, so it’s best to just order takeout and head out for a picnic to enjoy the mountain views!
LOCATION: 101 Lake Louise Dr, Lake Louise, AB
Farm & Fire
Farm & Fire serves up wood-fired dishes made with fresh ingredients from local farmers, and they’re all about appreciating nature.
They’ve got a large brunch menu (try the Holy Cow if you’re in the mood for a big meal), plus plenty of vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options available.
If you’re in the mood for a drink, they’ve also got an extensive drink menu with plenty of house cocktails and mocktails!
They’re located inside the The Elk + Avenue Hotel, and while most hotel restaurants aren’t anything special, Farm & Fire is amazing!
LOCATION: 333 Banff Ave, Banff, AB
Bear Street Tavern
Bear Street Tavern is a rustic spot known for having the best pizzas in Banff, and though they don’t have a huge pizza menu, what they’ve got is great.
If you’re a beer lover, they’ve got an extensive selection of local craft beers from breweries across Alberta and British Columbia.
They’ve also got a courtyard patio that’s perfect for enjoying your pizza and beer during the warmer months.
Be sure to also grab one of their house-made dipping sauces to dip your pizza crust in!
LOCATION: 211 Bear St, Banff, AB

Block Kitchen + Bar
Block Kitchen + Bar is an Asian-Canadian fusion restaurant located right in downtown Banff.
It’s a teeny tiny yet cozy restaurant, and they serve up amazing food and craft cocktails.
It’s best to order a bunch of different appetizers to share – their menu is inspired by Japanese izakayas!
They also use local ingredients and sustainable, Ocean-Wise seafood on the menu.
LOCATION: 5 Banff Ave #201, Banff, AB
The Grizzly House
Looking to have an unforgettable meal while you’re in Banff?
The Grizzly House serves up fondue and exotic meats, including shark, alligator, and rattlesnake.
If you’re not too fond of the exotic stuff, you can go with classic meats like beef or game meats like venison!
They’ve been open since the 60s, and they actually started out as a disco serving up food from a neighbouring Chinese restaurant.
They’re one of the most iconic restaurants to eat at in Banff – definitely a place you’ll want to tell your friends and family about.
It is pricy, but it’s totally worth visiting for both the great food and the experience!
LOCATION: 207 Banff Ave, Banff, AB

Fairview Bar and Restaurant
The Fairview Bar and Restaurant is at the perfect location – it’s literally located right beside Lake Louise!
You’ll find it inside the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise hotel, and you can enjoy a view of Lake Louise while you eat your meal.
It is pretty pricy, but it’s definitely worth eating here at least once during your visit to Banff.
You can also do afternoon tea here if you fancy!
LOCATION: 111 Lake Louise Dr, Lake Louise, AB

The Keg Steakhouse + Bar
The Keg Steakhouse + Bar is a Canadian steakhouse chain that serves up some of the best steaks in the country.
While you’ll probably want to visit some of the more local restaurants while in Banff, you can never go wrong with eating at The Keg!
