If you’re as obsessed with Instagram as I am, you’ve probably gone through Instagrammer’s block at some point or another.
When I travel, I take hundreds and hundreds of different kinds of photos and I end up with so much content, I can’t even post it all on Instagram or I’ll drive my followers crazy. When I’m not traveling (which is most of the time), I have to plan and shoot my content ahead of time, because I always struggle with finding things to post.
I try my hardest to stay active and post everyday (or at least several times a week), but sometimes your photo bank runs dry and you have absolutely no inspiration on what to post. With this list, you’ll hopefully have at least two weeks worth of content, plus more if you shoot each idea more than once (which is probably a good idea).
Here are some photo ideas for Instagram if you’ve run out of content.
1. Take a flatlay
Everyone loves a good flatlay photo. It’s aesthetically pleasing and super easy to shoot. All you have to do is throw in some jewelry, beauty products, maybe a book or a laptop, and you’re good to go! You can even include your hand or your leg to make it look less product-y.
2. Take a “day in the life” shot
Stop wherever you are and snap some photos of what you’re doing, where you are, or even what you’re working on. Show us your workspace or even what you’re reading in bed!
3. Visit a coffee shop
Coffee shots will never be overrated. You can even stick your phone and wallet in the shot to make it more interesting.
4. Take a Boomerang
Instagram’s Boomerang app makes everything look cool. Make one of you pouring coffee into a cup, grabbing a slice of pizza, or even one of you doing cute poses.
5. Have a photogenic brunch somewhere
Post these around lunchtime to get people super hungry and to get them to press that like button.
6. Take an outfit of the day
All you need is a cute outfit and a nice wall as a background, and you’re set.
7. Take a #fromwhereistand shot
If you don’t have someone to take your OOTD, a FWIS shot is always great. Find a cool floor to stand on and give us a sneak peek of your outfit.
8. Eat some sweet treats
Everyone loves dessert photos, especially during the warmer months. Make everyone jealous by paying a visit to a cute little dessert shop for your Instagram.
9. Visit a flower shop
Stand above the flowers in a flower shop and take a quick snap, or even purchase a bouquet and take a photo of your hand holding the bouquet in front of a pretty wall.
10. Go outside and take a cool building shot
Building shots are especially interesting when the sun is setting or when it’s cloudy outside. Take a walk around the city or just snap some shots wherever you are. When I’m walking around downtown, I like looking up at the sky and shooting whatever I see.
11. Take a selfie
A selfie shot once in a while won’t hurt your feed! Just try not to post too many of them.
12. Take a photo of a cool or funny graphic shirt you own
The shirts speak for themselves.
13. Post a photo of a cool landmark in your city
A shot of Toronto’s CN Tower never fails, which is why I’ve posted so many on my feed.
14. Snap a photo of the sunset
Cotton candy skies make for great Instagrams.
15. Dig through old photos
Whenever my photo bank runs dry, I dig through old photos on my phone or Flickr. Some of the recent photos on my feed were taken years ago!
16. Post a #TBT
A throwback photo every once in awhile can be fun, especially when it’s a nostalgic #takemeback travel photo.
17. Take a photo of physical photos
Polaroid shots always make for cute Instagram photos. Hold them with your hands in front of a colourful wall, scatter them across your bed in a flatlay – be creative!
So there you have it: over two weeks’ worth of Instagram photo ideas to post if you’ve got Instagrammer’s block. What do you post on Instagram when you’re out of ideas? I’d love to know in the comments!
