Best takeout spots in North York
Pizzeria Libretto
This authentic Italian pizza spot in Toronto is known for their amazing wood-fired Neapolitan-style pizzas.
They’ve got 3 different types of pizzas on the menu to choose from:
- Neapolitan: fermented sourdough base with a charred crust
- NEO-New York: similar to the Neapolitan but slightly thicker and layered with cheese and basil
- Sicilian: focaccia crust topped with crispy cheese
Their NEO-NY Genoa Salami with their house-made chilli oil is *chef’s kiss*.
All of their pizzas can be made vegan and/or gluten-free – you can sub for their housemade vegan cheese or gluten-free crust!
They’ve got locations across Toronto, and their North York location is by Yonge & Sheppard.

Maker Pizza
Matty Matheson is the chef behind the wildly popular Maker Pizza, one of the best grab-and-go pizza spots in Toronto.
Choose from a variety of red or white sauce pizzas, including classics like their Siena Margherita or more unique pies like their Return of the Mac (Big Mac-inspired).
Their North York location is near Avenue & Lawrence, and you can find also them in Chinatown, Riverside, and Koreatown.

Pizza Maru
This popular pizza chain from South Korea has been around for over two decades, and they’ve recently opened their first location in Canada.
They use a patented green tea dough for their Korean-inspired pizza, which is pretty unique!
Go for their popular Holy Honey Sweet Potato Pizza or Korean Bulgogi Pizza, or choose from their large selection of pizzas (including Chicago pizza!)
They’ve even got some side options, including toppoki, oven baked chicken, and oven spaghetti.
Be sure to arrive and order early, as there can be a long wait with it being so new and so popular!

Fresh Burger
Fresh Burger serves up delicious and juicy burgers made with fresh 100% Canadian Angus beef, which they grind fresh daily.
All of their burgers are cooked to order, and you can choose all your toppings!
I love that their burgers aren’t greasy, and their Cali-style fries are amaze.
Fun fact: the founder of Fresh Burger formerly worked on Bay Street, and he opened their very first location in Richmond Hill!
They now have locations across the GTA, including two North York locations at Yonge & Sheppard and Dufferin & Steeles.

Hot Star Large Fried Chicken
Hot Star serves up some of the best Taiwanese crispy chicken here in Toronto, and you can find them by Yonge & Finch.
Their large pieces of fried chicken are tender, juicy, and v delicious.
They even have cheese-stuffed fried chicken if you’re in the mood for something extra hearty.
They’ve been around for over 30 years and have locations around the world and across Canada!
LOCATION: 5525 Yonge St, Toronto, ON
I’m a Little Hot Crab
This teeny tiny little takeout shop at Yonge & Sheppard serves up a small menu of Chinese specialty crab dishes.
Choose from their Traditional Spicy, Shiso Spicy, Classic Curry, Black Pepper, or Creamy Salted Egg Yolk Crab!
You can choose the spice level for each flavour of crab, and they also each come with their own side dishes.
They also have some other seafood dishes, like their Clam Lover and Signature Spicy Crawfish Tail.
LOCATION: 5418 Yonge St, Toronto, ON
Woojoo Bunsik
This small Korean takeout shop serves up some of the best tteokbokki in Toronto, and their Rosé Tteokbokki is heavenly.
You can choose your spiciness, and be warned that spicy actually means spicy!
They’ve also got delicious side options, including rice balls and stuffed tofu pockets!
You can find this spot north of Yonge & Finch, and they do have very limited seating if you’re interested in dining in.

Allwyn’s Bakery
Allwyn’s is a well-loved GTA spot for authentic Jamaican food, and they’re known for their jerk sandwiches.
Choose between their Jerk Chicken or Jerk Pork Sandwiches, or go for their Stuffed Sandwich if you’re looking for something epic!
Allwyn’s started out as a humble takeout shop in North York 30 years ago, and they’ve since grown to have 7 locations across the GTA.
You can find their North York locations by Yonge & Sheppard or near the DVP & Lawrence.
Be sure to bring cash as well, as they only accept cash!

The Islands Caribbean Cookshop
Enjoy authentic Caribbean cuisine with dishes like their 48-hour marinated Jerk Chicken or Ackee & Saltfish, which is Jamaica’s national dish!
They’ve also got some affordable lunch specials, ranging from $7 to $8 for regular sizes.
You can find them inside the Yonge Sheppard Centre food court, and they’ve also got locations inside York University and in Liberty Village.

The Suya Spot
If you’ve never had African BBQ before, prepare to be in heaven.
This local West African restaurant chain in Toronto is well-known for its amazing suya, which is a traditional street food dish made up of a smoked and spiced meat skewer.
Order their Assorted Suya, which comes with an assortment of meats and organs!
You can also enjoy their suya in sandwiches, wraps, or on plates.
And if you’re in the mood for an appetizer, definitely grab the Fried Ripe Plantain or Fried Yam!
The Suya Spot has several locations across the GTA, including in downtown Toronto, North York, and Scarborough.

Anoush Middle Eastern Cuisine
Anoush serves up some of the best shawarma in Toronto, and their Chicken Shawarma Plate is my absolute fave.
They’ve even got homemade baklava available for dessert if you’re craving a sweet treat!
They have multiple locations across the GTA, and their North York location is located south of Dufferin & Finch.
LOCATION: 170 Rimrock Rd, North York, ON
Congee Queen
Congee Queen is one of Toronto’s fave spots for authentic Cantonese cuisine.
You’ll find a wide selection of different congees (like their Lobster Super Bowl Congee and Abalone Clam with Chicken Congee), as well as tons of noodle and rice dishes.
Some of my fave dishes are the Stir Fried Lobster with Ginger & Green Onion and the Stir Fried Clam with Chili Black Bean Sauce!
They have locations across the GTA, including two North York locations at Lawrence & Don Mills and Centerpoint Mall.
