Looking for the best coffee shops to work from in Toronto?
As someone who works from home, I definitely feel the need to get out of the house and work from somewhere else sometimes.
I’ve always been the type of person who’s more productive around other people, which is why I love working at coffee shops alongside other people working remotely.
It’s even more fun if you have a friend who works remotely, and you can both work from the same coffee shop together!
Here are some of the best coffee shops to work from in Toronto.
Be sure to also follow me on Instagram and TikTok – I share a lot more content on those platforms that don’t make it to the blog!

Best coffee shops to work from in Toronto
Boxcar Social
Boxcar Social operates as a coffee shop by day and bar by night, and they’ve got a few locations across the city.
You’ll find a rotating list of coffees from top roasters around the world alongside natural wines, local craft beer, and whiskies.
They even have a small selection of bites or actual food items at each of their locations, and their avocado toast is definitely worth a try!
Boxcar Social has 5 locations in Toronto, and their Harbourfront location is definitely my favourite one to work at.
The space is ginormous with tons of seating, and the dark, woody interior is gorgeous!
I also love sitting on the huge patio during the summer and sippin’ on iced coffee while enjoying the waterfront views.
You can find their other coffee shops in Summerhill, Little Italy, Riverside, and near Kensington Market!
LOCATION: Various locations
Balzac’s
Balzac’s is an independent coffee shop chain with locations all across Ontario, and they’re originally from Stratford, AKA the birthplace of J Biebs.
Their cafés are inspired by Parisian cafés, and all of their locations are gorgeous.
My favourite Balzac’s cafés are the Distillery District and Junction locations because they’re so dang beautiful.
They’re also quite spacious, so they’re perfect to work from!
LOCATION: Various locations
Jimmy’s Coffee
Jimmy’s Coffee is an iconic Toronto café known for their Instagrammable yellow cup lids.
They’ve got locations all over the city, and their coffee is incredible!
The King West and Kensington Market locations are my favourite ones to work from because they’ve got plenty of seating.
LOCATION: Various locations
Pilot Coffee Roasters
This popular Toronto roastery and independent coffee chain is known for their signature espresso blends and a rotating selection of single origin coffees.
All of their coffee is sourced ethically and through direct trade!
They even offer nitro cold brew on tap, which is the perfect summer drink.
They’ve got 10 locations all across the city, and my fave cafés to work from are their Ossington and Richmond locations.
Their Ossington café is stunning and has plenty of seating, and their light-filled Richmond spot has a great atmosphere.
LOCATION: Various locations
Dineen Coffee Co.
Dineen is a super cute local coffee chain with great coffee and a vintage aesthetic.
They’ve got a few locations around Toronto, but their Yonge Street (near Yonge & Dundas) and Leslieville coffee shops are my favourites.
Their Yonge Street location is actually their original, and it’s located in the historic Dineen building, which is one of Toronto’s oldest structures.
For all you pastel and pink lovers, their Leslieville location is the Instagrammable café of your dreams.
Dineen sources all their food offerings locally, which are delivered fresh to each café daily.
All of their locations tend to get really busy, so come early to snag a coveted seat!

Dark Horse Espresso Bar
Dark Horse was one of Toronto’s very first specialty coffee shops, and they’ve now got several locations across the city.
Each of their locations offers a rotating coffee menu, highlighting seasonal single-origin coffees from around the world.
They also bake all their own pastries at their bakery location near Dovercourt Village!
My fave location is their Canary District location in the east end, which is the perfect café to work from.
They even sell some interesting pantry items here, including plenty of local goodies.
They also have a sister company, Detour Coffee, which you can find in Hamilton!
LOCATION: Various locations
Hale Coffee Company
Hale is an independent coffee roaster and coffee house in Toronto, and they source their beans from direct-trade relationships with farmers from around the world.
They’ve got a few locations across Toronto, including in the Junction and in Midtown Toronto.
The interior of their Junction café is absolutely stunning, with industrial-inspired decor and unique touches like hanging plants.
It’s also the best location to work out of, with a good amount of seating!

Versus Coffee
Versus Coffee is a tiny little café near the Financial District, and it’s one of my favourite coffee shops to work from in Toronto.
Since the space is pretty small, it gets pretty packed in here, but you will see quite a few people working away on their laptops!
They offer a wide range of classic espresso drinks and unique offerings, including everything from their Campfire Latte (with maple syrup and toasted marshmallows) to their Nitro Cold Brew.
They also offer up local craft beers, a seasonal wine selection, and seasonal cocktails!
You can find Versus Coffee near Yonge & Adelaide.
During the summer months, you can also enjoy your rainbow latte on the patio out front!
LOCATION: 70 Adelaide St E, Toronto, ON
AM Coffee Studio
You’ll find AM Coffee Studio tucked away in the Roncesvalles neighbourhood.
This stylish coffee shop has a café in the front and a wellness studio in the back, where you’ll find yoga and fitness classes.
I adore all the plants and the exposed brick, which makes it such a nice atmosphere to work in!
One of the best things about AM is that they’re open from 7 AM to 7 PM on weekdays.
Most coffee shops in Toronto close before 5 PM, so it’s nice that they’re open a bit later!
You can enjoy classic espresso and tea offerings, and they’ve also got a great selection of baked goods and healthy sandwiches and salads.
I’ve also got a TikTok video if you’d like to see more of AM Coffee Studio!
LOCATION: 2233 Dundas St W, Toronto, ON
FIKA Cafe
FIKA is a super cute café in Kensington Market, and you’ll especially love it if you’re a bookworm.
They’ve got a lovely and Instagrammable wall full of old book pages, and it’s all over just a cute spot to visit!
It’s also a great café to work from, though there isn’t a whole lot of seating.
Fun fact: “fika” is the Swedish word for “coffee break”!
LOCATION: 28 Kensington Ave, Toronto, ON
