Happiest Season (2020)
If you’re looking for an actually good Christmas movie on Netflix, you’ll definitely want to watch Happiest Season.
Abby plans to propose to her girlfriend, Harper, while visiting Harper’s family for Christmas, only to find out Harper hasn’t come out to her parents yet.
It’s a hilarious and heartwarming holiday film, and I teared up a few times.
Kristen Stewart and Dan Levy are a great duo together, and you’ll recognize other faces like Mackenzie Davis, Aubrey Plaza, and Mary Steenburgen!

Love Actually (2003)
Love Actually is one of those classic holiday movies you just have to watch every holiday season.
Different couples in London deal with their relationships in different ways, and it shows how complicated love can be.
It’s similar to He’s Just Not That Into You, New Year’s Eve, and Valentine’s Day, except it’s the OG movie in this format!

The Night Before (2015)
Lifelong buddies Ethan, Isaac, and Chris have gathered every Christmas for the last 10 years to celebrate the holidays with a bang.
But, as Isaac becomes a first-time father, the friends realize their annual tradition is coming to an end, so they set out to make this last night as memorable as possible.
They finally find tickets to the elusive Nutcracka Ball, the most iconic Christmas party in New York.
Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Seth Rogen, and Anthony Mackie all star in The Night Before, and you’ll recognize a lot of other famous faces as well!

Family holiday movies
Elf (2003)
Elf is an iconic Christmas movie I watch with my family every single year.
It’s about a human named Buddy, who accidentally gets transported to the North Pole when he sneaks into Santa’s sack as a baby, and he travels to New York City as an adult who thinks he’s an elf.
He meets his real father, a cynical businessman, alongside his father’s loving wife and son.
Will Ferrell and Zooey Deschanel star in Elf!

A skeptical young boy is shocked to see a train stop outside his window on Christmas Eve, destined for the North Pole, and he accepts an invitation to embark on a ride to Santa’s headquarters.

How the Grinch Stole Christmas (2000)
We all know the iconic Grinch character from Dr. Seuss’ beloved children’s tale: he’s the grumpy recluse who tries to ruin Christmas for the happy citizens of Whoville.
How the Grinch Stole Christmas is a fun and cute holiday movie for the whole family.
This live adaption stars Jim Carrey, Taylor Momsen, and Christine Baranski!

Jingle All the Way (1996)
A workaholic father wants to make things up to his son, and vows to get him a Turbo Man action figure for Christmas.
The problem is, it’s Christmas Eve, and the toy is practically sold out, so he spends the night hunting down the elusive gift alongside a fellow father on the same quest.

Edward Scissorhands (1990)
A scientist builds an animated human being, but he passes away before finishing the being, leaving him with a freakish appearance.
The being, Edward, has scissor blades in place of hands, making him an outcast.
A loving suburban saleswoman discovers Edward and takes him home, where he falls for her teenage daughter.
Johnny Depp and Winona Ryder both star in this beloved film!
And no, it’s not exactly a holiday movie, but there are Christmas scenes, so I’m including it in here.

Reality TV
12 Dates of Christmas (2020)
This ain’t no Hallmark movie, it’s (sort of) real life.
12 Dates of Christmas is actually a series, but since it is Christmas-themed, I had to include it in this post.
Three singles meet different love interests with the goal of finding someone to take home for the holidays.
If you’re a fan of the Netflix series Love is Blind, you’ll enjoy watching 12 Dates of Christmas, which is by the same creators.
It’s cheesy and totally not realistic at all, but it’s still a fun watch especially during the holiday season!
You can watch two seasons of the show on Crave Canada, though I definitely enjoyed the first season more as the second one was super messy.
