7 Pros & Cons of Subscribing to Crave TV

Wondering whether Crave TV Canada is worth it to subscribe to?

I’m a big TV and movie buff, so I enjoy having access to all of the streaming platforms.

If you’re on the fence of whether or not to subscribe to Crave, here’s my honest review of if it’s worth it!

Be sure to also follow me on Instagram and TikTok – I share a lot more content on those platforms that don’t make it to the blog!

Pros of subscribing to Crave

The fantastic selection of blockbuster movies

The thing about Crave is that you’re going to want to upgrade to the Movies + HBO add-on to get all the best shows and movies.

The basic Crave plan itself gives you limited access to shows, and you don’t get any access to movies.

I definitely think it’s worth upgrading to Movies + HBO, because you get to stream all kinds of blockbuster hits like Parasite and Promising Young Woman.

Access to HBO shows

The basic Crave plan does give you access to some HBO shows (like the first 6 seasons of Game of Thrones), but you’ll have to upgrade if you want all the latest and greatest (or even the oldest and greatest).

HBO is probably one of my favourite TV networks, and they make a lot of incredible shows.

With the Movies + HBO add-on, you can watch popular HBO shows like Big Little Lies, Westworld, and The White Lotus!

You can get a 7-day free trial of Crave

Looking to test out Crave to see if you’ll actually get use out of your subscription?

You can get a 7-day free trial to peep out your favourite shows and see if you like it or not!

If there’s just one specific show you’re looking to watch, you can also binge-watch it during the free trial lol.

You get 2 months free if you pay for the annual plan

If there’s a discount for paying annually on anything, I almost always do it.

If I know I’m going to stay subscribed to a service, why wouldn’t I choose to save money?!

Netflix doesn’t give you the option to pay annually, so it’s definitely a plus that Crave offers it with a discounted price.

Cons of subscribing to Crave

Crave is expensive

If you’re just subscribing to the basic Crave plan, it’s only $9.99 a month, but I honestly don’t see much value in the basic plan.

Netflix’s basic plan is also $9.99 a month, which gives you access to their massive library of TV shows and movies (though a lot of it is their own Netflix Originals).

Crave’s Movies + HBO add-on is an additional $9.99 a month, which adds up to a total of $19.98 a month.

It’s kind of pricy, but if you do tend to watch a lot of TV, it’s definitely worth subscribing to.

There’s also the Starz add-on for $5.99 which gives you access to more shows, but I personally don’t subscribe to it.

If you’re looking for Francophone versions of your fave shows, you can also subscribe to Super Écran for an additional $9.99 a month.

Here’s a breakdown of the pricing for Crave TV:

  • Basic plan – $9.99 a month
  • Movies + HBO add-on – $9.99 a month
  • Starz add-on – $5.99 a month
  • Super Écran add-on – $9.99 a month

Only 2 devices can watch at the same time

You can have up to 5 devices registered to your Crave account, but only 2 people can watch at the same time on different devices.

If you have the maxTV set-top box, 3 people can watch at the same time on different devices.

It’s kind of frustrating if you’re a family sharing the same account and living in separate households, but my family hasn’t really had any problems with this.

The interface isn’t as user-friendly as other streaming platforms

Honestly, the interface isn’t as attractive or user-friendly as Netflix, and I find it harder to find things to watch on Crave.

I usually just navigate towards the “Just Added TV” or “Just Added Movies” sections on the app.

I wish there were more categories on the main page to sift through!

At the end of the day, it’s the content on the streaming platforms that matter, so it doesn’t bother me all that much.
