Thriller movies on Disney+ Canada

The Menu (2022)

A young couple visit an exclusive restaurant on a remote island, where they experience a lavish tasting menu with some unexpected surprises.

Anya Taylor-Joy (The Queen’s Gambit), Nicholas Hoult (Warm Bodies), and Ralph Fiennes all star in The Menu!

The writers of the film were actually inspired by a real-life dining experience they had at a fancy restaurant on a remote Norwegian island, which is really funny.

Nina’s whole life revolves around being a ballerina, and when she wins the leading role of “Swan Lake”, she also gains a new rival, newcomer Lily.

Nina is perfect for the role of the White Swan, while Lily personifies the Black Swan.

As the two rivals form a twisted friendship, Nina’s dark side begins to emerge.

Supernatural horror movies on Disney+ Canada

The Sixth Sense (1999)

A young boy who can see ghosts seeks the help of a child psychologist, who tries to help him uncover the truth about his supernatural abilities.

Bruce Willis and Toni Collette star in The Sixth Sense, and this is definitely one of my all-time favourite horror movies!

It was written and directed by M. Night Shyamalan and nominated for multiple Oscars.

Poltergeist (2015)

A family moves into their new house in the suburbs, where their youngest daughter befriends an imaginary friend.

Of course, it ain’t just an imaginary friend, and it’s not long before sinister spirits begin to wreak havoc in their home.

It’s a pretty good horror movie, and it kinda reminds me of the first Insidious movie.

Poltergeist is actually a remake of the 1982 movie of the same name!

A Haunting in Venice (2023)

A former detective is invited to a séance, and when one of the guests is murdered, it’s up to him to uncover the killer.

This is much more of a murder mystery than it is a horror movie, but it’s still an interesting watch.

Michelle Yeoh and Tina Fey both star in A Haunting in Venice!

Antlers (2021)

A teacher and sheriff sibling duo discover a young student is hiding a dark secret in their small town in Oregon.

There are some pretty terrifying and gory scenes if you’re okay with that.

Fun fact: they filmed Antlers in British Columbia!

The Boogeyman (2023)

Two sisters are still reeling from the recent death of their mother, and their therapist father isn’t really there for them.

When a desperate patient unexpectedly shows up at their door, he leaves behind a terrifying supernatural entity.

Sophie Thatcher (young Natalie in Yellowjackets on Crave) stars as one of the sisters!

The Empty Man (2021)

While searching for a missing teenage girl, an ex-cop comes across a mysterious cult trying to summon a supernatural entity.

The Empty Man didn’t get rave reviews from critics, but I thought it was overall a pretty good watch!

The Omen franchise (1976-2006)

In The Omen trilogy, an American diplomat and his wife discover that their adopted son might be the Anti-Christ.

The original movies were made in the late ’70s and early ’80s, and the 2006 movie is a remake of the original 1976 movie.

Julia Stiles stars as the wife in the newer version of The Omen, which you can watch on Disney+!

The original trilogy is also available to stream on Disney+.

28 Weeks Later (2007)

28 weeks after the original epidemic, the US army arrives on British soil to reconstruct all the damage from the rage virus.

Of course, the virus is all but gone, and it’s even more dangerous than it was before.

Jeremy Renner, Rose Byrne, Imogen Poots, and Idris Elba all star in this sequel to 28 Days Later!

Grimcutty (2022)

A suburban teen girl and her little brother must work together to stop a terrifying internet meme that’s been brought to life by the hysteria of their parents.

The movie is inspired by the super creepy and viral Momo challenge.

Alien franchise (1979-2017)

This iconic sci-fi thriller stars Sigourney Weaver as Ellen Ripley, who battles against extraterrestrial lifeforms.

You can watch 9 movies in the Alien franchise on Disney+ Canada, including the Predator and Prometheus spinoffs!

The Fly (1986)

Seth Brundle is a brilliant scientist who creates a teleportation device, and decides to test his machine on himself.

He manages to teleport himself, but unknowingly has a special guest in the pod with him.

The Fly is an ’80s horror/sci-fi, and while it does feel very ’80s, it’s still a good one!

The special effects are super gross, so cover your eyes if things like Dr. Pimple Popper gross you out.

If you enjoy David Cronenberg’s movies, you’ll also enjoy Crimes on the Future on Crave.

You can also watch Infinity Pool on Crave, which is a film by Cronenberg’s son, Brandon!

Gory horror movies on Disney+ Canada

Barbarian (2022)

A young woman checks into her Airbnb and realizes it’s already being occupied by a stranger.

Against her better judgement, she decides to spend the night, and soon realizes there’s more to be terrified of than an unexpected houseguest.

Barbarian is one of the most terrifying horror films I’ve seen in a really long time.

Bill Skarsgård and Justin Long both star in Barbarian!

The Hills Have Eyes franchise (2006 & 2007)

A suburban family heads for San Diego in their camper vans, only to be stranded in the desert after getting into an accident.

While two of the men search for help, the rest of the family is forced to wait.

The family is totally unaware that they’ve stumbled across the site where decades earlier, nuclear tests performed led to people becoming mutated, flesh-eating monsters.

There are some pretty gory and horrifying scenes in this one, so it definitely ain’t for everyone.

The 2006 movie is a remake of Wes Craven’s 1977 film of the same name, and you can also watch the sequel on Disney+ Canada!

Horror comedies on Disney+ Canada

Ready or Not (2019)

After marrying the man of her dreams at his family’s estate, Grace spends her wedding night playing a deadly game of hide and seek.

Ready or Not is a fun play on the whole sacrifice horror movie thing, and it’s got a lot of funny moments.

Samara Weaving and Adam Brody also both star in it!

1 film available on Disney+ Canada, watch the trailer

Jennifer’s Body (2009)

After a demon takes possession of her, popular and beautiful high school student Jennifer turns a hungry eye on guys who never stood a chance with her before.

While she satisfies her hunger for human flesh with the school’s male population, her nerdy friend, Needy, tries to put a stop to it.
