Looking for the best movies to binge-watch on Netflix Canada this November 2024?
From rom coms to action flicks, Netflix always have a great selection of films to binge-watch.
Although they do have a lot of bad movies (*ahem* The Princess Switch and Secret Obsession), there are a lot more good ones.
I spend a lot of time watching TV shows and movies, usually in the background of whatever I’m doing – it’s just nice to have background noise, whether I’m cooking or doing work!
Here are the best movies on Netflix Canada to binge-watch by genre, in my personal opinion.
I’ve seen all of these movies multiple times (some maybe dozens), which is why they’re my favourites!
Be sure to also follow me on Instagram and TikTok – I share a lot more content on those platforms that don’t make it to the blog!

Alongside two friends she meets, they try to take down the Plastics, a trio of popular girls who rule the school.
The movie was also filmed in Toronto, which is pretty cool!
It’s one of the best and most iconic comedy movies to watch on Netflix Canada.

Miss Congeniality (2000)
A female FBI agent goes undercover as a contestant at the Miss United States pageant, but she prides herself in being “one of the boys” and is horrified at the idea of becoming a girly girl.

College student Beca joins an all-girl acapella group filled with all kinds of different personalities.
She helps break them out of their traditional ideals as they work together to compete in college music competitions against other top acapella groups at college competitions.
There are tons of popular names in here, including Anna Kendrick, Rebel Wilson, and Brittany Snow!
The original Pitch Perfect is probably my favourite of all the movies, but you can watch all three movies on Netflix.
It’s an awesome musical comedy that’s perfect for any music lovers!

Every single day, Duke reads the story of Noah and Allie to Ms. Hamilton, a woman with dementia.

Someone Great (2019)
Although Someone Great is a rom-com, I’d say it’s more about love in friendships than romantic love.
After Jenny and her long-term boyfriend break up, she and her two best friends go on one last adventure around New York City together before she leaves for her dream job in San Francisco.
The soundtrack is great, the cast is great, the storyline is great – everything about this movie is great.
It’s now one of my favourite rom coms of all-time – I think I watched it 3 times in the same week the first time I saw it!
1 film available on Netflix, watch the trailer
Twilight franchise (2008-2012)
High school student Bella Swan reluctantly moves in with her estranged father in a small Pacific Northwest town.
There, she meets the handsome and mysterious Edward Cullen, who turns out to be a vampire who doesn’t drink blood.
The original Twilight movie is pretty bad, but I really enjoyed the rest of the movies in the franchise!
It stars Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson as the leads, and you can watch all of the movies on Netflix.

Nobody puts baby in a corner.
Dirty Dancing is a classic romance film, and you’ll love it even if you’re not really into dance movies.
While vacationing with her family at a resort, Frances falls in love with a dance instructor, and her father diapproves.
There’s an episode about Dirty Dancing on the Netflix docu-series The Movies That Made Us, and it really makes you appreciate the film so much more.

Best drama movies on Netflix Canada
Escape from Pretoria (2020)
Two white South Africans are imprisoned for working on behalf of the African National Congress, and they plot their escape from the notorious Pretoria Prison.
You would totally think Escape from Pretoria is unrealistic, but the crazy thing is that it’s based on a true story.
Daniel Radcliffe does an incredible job playing the main character!

1 film available on Netflix, watch the trailer
Les Misérables (2012)
A prisoner named Jean Valjean breaks parole and starts a new life.
He becomes the caretaker of a young girl, but his past comes back to catch up with him.
Les Misérables is an incredible film, and the songs in it are iconic – “Do You Hear the People Sing?” lives rent-free in my head lol.
There are tons of big names in here, including Anne Hathaway, Hugh Jackman, Russell Crowe, and Amanda Seyfried!
1 film available on Netflix, watch the trailer
Blue Bayou (2021)
A Korean adoptee raised in a small Louisiana town struggles to make a better life for his pregnant wife and stepdaughter.
After facing deportation from the only country he’s ever called home, he has to face the ghosts of his past.
Blue Bayou is an incredible and extremely emotional film, so be sure to have a box of tissues on-hand.
I was crying throughout the movie and literally ugly sobbing by the end.
Fun fact: the actor who plays Eric from Twilight, Justin Chon, is the writer, director, and star of Blue Bayou!
Alicia Vikander, who plays Lara Croft in the latest Tomb Raider movies, is his co-star.
1 film available on Netflix, watch the trailer
Pieces of a Woman (2020)

Best biographical dramas on Netflix Canada
First They Killed My Father (2017)
First They Killed My Father is based on the memoir of Loung Ung’s life.
It shows Loung Ung’s memories of when the Khmer Rouge took over Cambodia in 1975 during the Vietnam War, and how she and her family had to survive.
This really hits close to home because both sides of my family escaped Vietnam during the war, and it’s a heartbreaking film to watch.
You will be crying a lot while watching this.
The film was directed by Angelina Jolie and written by both her and Ung (who now lives in the U.S.)
1 film available on Netflix, watch the trailer
Green Book (2018)
Based on the true story of pianist Dr. Don Shirley, Green Book explores racism and segregation in the 1960s.

1 film available on Netflix, watch the trailer
The Guilty (2021)
A demoted police detective works as a 911 operator, and he scrambles to save a distressed caller.
Jake Gyllenhaal is incredible in the movie, and Ethan Hawke voices the sergeant, though I don’t think you see him at all in the movie.
The Guilty is based on a Danish movie, which was actually based on a true story!
1 film available on Netflix, watch the trailer
Best action & adventure movies on Netflix Canada
Fast & Furious franchise (2001-2021)
The Fast & Furious franchise is one of my favourite action franchises of all-time, though I stopped watching it after the last movie starring Paul Walker.
I’m not really into cars, but it’s a fantastic franchise that’s still very entertaining for people who don’t care that much about cars.
8 of the movies in the franchise are available to stream on Netflix.
8 films available on Netflix
Bourne franchise (2002-2012)
A former CIA agent named Jason Bourne suffers from amnesia, and he tries to discover his identity in the midst of a clandestine conspiracy within the CIA.
The Bourne franchise is a really great action series, and you can watch all of the movies on Netflix.
Matt Damon stars as Jason Bourne in the first 3 films, a former CIA agent with amnesia, searching for clues of his past.
The 4th movie stars Jeremy Renner as the main character, and Matt Damon returns for the 5th.
5 films available on Netflix, watch the trailer
The Hunger Games franchise (2012-2015)
If you don’t already know of The Hunger Games, it’s set in a post-apocalyptic world where teenagers compete in the televised Hunger Games.
After her little sister gets randomly drawn to participate, Katniss Everdeen voluntarily takes her place, and that’s where the adventure begins.
The franchise is based off of the trilogy novel series, and the third book is split into two movies, so there are 4 movies you can watch on Netflix.
4 films available on Netflix, watch the trailer
Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021)
If you haven’t seen any of the Spider-Man movies before, it’s basically about a guy who gets bitten by a spider and uses his spidey senses and powers to defeat bad guys.
Peter Parker can’t live a normal life anymore after his identity as Spider-Man is revealed, and when he asks for help from Doctor Strange, the stakes become even more dangerous.
No Way Home is the third instalment of Spider-Man featuring Tom Holland, and there’s a nice surprise for OG Spider-Man fans in the movie.
1 film available on Netflix, watch the trailer
The Woman King (2022)
In the 1800s, a group of incredibly-skilled, all-female warriors protect the West African kingdom of Dahomey.

The Northman (2022)
After his uncle brutally murders his father and takes his mother as a bride, young Prince Amleth promises to get his revenge, and he gets the chance two decades later.
The Vikings series on Netflix is what got me interested in the viking era, and The Northman is a fantastic film!
It stars a lot of big names, including Alexander Skarsgård, Anya Taylor-Joy, Ethan Hawke, Nicole Kidman, Willem Dafoe, and Björk.
1 film available on Netflix, watch the trailer
Bullet Train (2022)
An unlucky assassin is determined to do his job peacefully after one too many gigs has gone wrong, but his latest mission puts him on a bullet train to Kyoto with other lethal assassins from around the world.
Little do they know, all their missions have something in common.
Bullet Train doesn’t have rave reviews, but I thoroughly enjoyed it and thought it was hilarious.
It also stars a bunch of big names, including Brad Pitt, Sandra Bullock, Joey King, Logan Lerman, and Bad Bunny.
Channing Tatum and Ryan Reynolds both make uncredited cameos in the movie as well!
You’ll also see stars from popular TV shows, including Andrew Koji from Warrior (on Crave), Masi Oka from Heroes, and Karen Fukuhara from The Boys (on Prime Video)!
1 film available on Netflix, watch the trailer
Kill Boksoon (2023)
Boksoon lives a double life as one of the world’s deadliest assassins and as a single mom to a teenage daughter.
This action-packed South Korean movie is really fun, and it kinda gives John Wick vibes!
1 film available on Netflix, watch the trailer
Jurassic World Dominion (2022)
We all know about the iconic Jurassic Park world, where scientists create a park filled with recreations of formerly extinct dinosaurs.
Four years after the destruction of Isla Nublar, dinosaurs live and hunt alongside humans around the world.
Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Laura Dern, and Jeff Goldblum all star in Jurassic World Dominion, which is the third and final instalment of the Jurassic World trilogy!
There’s also a Netflix animated series for kids, called Jurassic World Camp Cretaceous.
1 film available on Netflix, watch the trailer
Jumanji franchise (2017 & 2019)
Four high school students get trapped in a magical video game during detention, and they get thrown into the mysterious Jumanji world.
The concept is the same as the original 1995 film, but with a video game rather than a board game!
Both the 1995 and 2010s versions are great in their own ways!
You can watch both movies of the modern remake on Netflix Canada.
2 films available on Netflix, watch the trailers for the first and second movies
The Gray Man (2022)
When a CIA agent uncovers agency secrets, he triggers a global hunt by international assassins.
Ryan Gosling and Chris Evans both star in the film, and it’s super interesting to see Chris Evans play the role of the bad guy.
My dad and I both really enjoyed The Gray Man – it’s so action-packed!
Because it was so popular and well-received, Netflix is actually working on a sequel and spin-off!
1 film available on Netflix, watch the trailer
Best sci-fi movies on Netflix Canada
Matrix (1999)
You’ve definitely heard of the iconic Matrix franchise, and you can watch the very first movie on Netflix.
It’s basically all about a dystopian future where humanity is unknowingly trapped inside a simulated reality.
Keanu Reeves and Laurence Fishburne star in all of The Matrix movies.
1 film available on Netflix, watch the trailer
Tau (2018)
A woman gets kidnapped and trapped inside a house, and tries to hack the AI computer system to save herself.
Tau is an interesting sci-fi movie to watch on Netflix if you’re into the whole artificial intelligence shebang!

Best thriller movies on Netflix Canada
The Purge franchise (2013-2018)
If you don’t know what the fictional “Purge” is, it’s 12 hours when almost all crime is legal, in an effort to create a ~crime-free~ world the rest of the year.
Each movie is about a different set of people and how they deal with the infamous Purge.
You can watch the first 4 movies on Netflix, and there’s also a TV series on Prime Video!
4 films available on Netflix, watch the trailer
Society of the Snow (2023)
Society of the Snow is based on the true story of what happened with Uruguayan Flight 571, and if you didn’t know it was real, you totally wouldn’t believe it.
If you haven’t heard of the case before, in 1972, a Uruguayan flight crashed in the middle of the Andes mountains.
The few passengers who survived found themselves in one of the world’s toughest environments.
The film is absolutely incredible and the cast is amazing – most of the cast are also new actors!
I actually went down a rabbit hole looking up this case when I started watching Yellowjackets on Crave, and it’s such a wild story.
1 film available on Netflix, watch the trailer
Missing (2023)
When her mother disappears while on vacation in Colombia with her new boyfriend, a Los Angeles teenager searches for answers.
Storm Reid (Rue’s sister in Euphoria) and Nia Long both star in Missing.
The entire movie is made up of found footage or digital screens (also known as “screenlife”), which is a style I actually enjoy.
If you like the screenlife genre, Unfriended is a pretty good horror and Searching is a pretty good thriller!
1 film available on Netflix, watch the trailer
Best horror movies on Netflix Canada
Scream franchise (1997-2011)
Can you call yourself a horror fan without having seen Scream?
The Scream franchise revolves around Sidney Prescott, who constantly gets chased by psychopaths in Ghostface masks.
It’s definitely one of my favourite horror franchises of all-time, and you can stream the second, third, and fourth movies on Netflix.
You can watch the first movie over on Prime Video, and the fifth and sixth movies on Crave!
It’s the ultimate slasher franchise that never gets old or boring, and I never get tired of re-watching it.
While Jason Voorhees and Freddy Krueger may be the OG slasher villains, I find myself laughing too much since both franchises started in the 70s and 80s and the special effects and costumes are kinda corny.
3 films available on Netflix, watch the trailer
Insidious franchise (2011-2015)
The Insidious series is actually my favourite horror movie franchise of all-time.
Chapters 1 are 2 are so well thought-out, and everything makes so much sense in Chapter 2!
The gist of the first two movies is that a family gets haunted by malevolent entities because of a special skill they have.
The rest of the movies in the franchise aren’t as great, but they’re still worth watching if you’re the type of person who likes to watch all the movies in the same universe.
You can watch the first 4 movies on Netflix, and the newest movie is on Crave!
4 films available on Netflix, watch the trailer
A Quiet Place (2018)
A Quiet Place is a fantastic thriller that was so innovative and unique when it first came out, and it’s about a young family who lives in silence to avoid mysterious alien creatures that hunt by sound.
If you’ve seen Bird Box or The Silence (also on Netflix), it’s quite similar, but way better in my opinion!
There’s also a sequel, A Quiet Place Part II, that’s pretty much a direct continuation from the first movie, and it’s super action-packed. Unfortunately not on Netflix, though!
Super cute thing: John Krasinksi (director and the dad in the movie) and Emily Blunt (the mom in the movie) are married in real life!
1 film available on Netflix, watch the trailer
It (2017)
Seven young outcasts in the town of Derry face off against an ancient, shape-shifting evil that emerges from the sewers every 27 years to prey on the town’s children.
The friends must overcome their own personal fears to battle the bloodthirsty clown known as Pennywise.
It is one of the most terrifying horror movies I’ve ever seen, but it might just be because I’m afraid of clowns.
There’s also a sequel set 27 years after the events of the first movie, though it’s not available on Netflix!
1 film on Netflix, watch the trailer
Talk to Me (2022)
A group of friends discover how to conjure spirits with an embalmed hand, and they become hooked on the exhilaration and high-stakes party game.
However, their fascination takes a dark turn when one of them goes too far and unleashes terrifying supernatural forces.
Talk to Me is one of the more unique horror movies I’ve watched in recent years, alongside Hereditary, Midsommar, and Barbarian.
1 film available on Netflix, watch the trailer
X (2022)
A group of actors rent out a small home from an elderly couple to secretly film an adult film, and when they’re caught in the act, they find themselves in a desperate fight for their lives.
Mia Goth, Jenna Ortega, Brittany Snow, and Kid Cudi all star in X!
Fun fact: Mia Goth actually plays two different characters in this movie, and I did not realize until afterwards.
You can also watch the second movie, Pearl, on Prime Video, and it’s actually a prequel!
1 film available on Netflix, watch the trailer
American Psycho (2000)
Patrick Bateman is a wealthy investment banker with a secret psychopathic side, and his bloodlust gets increasingly violent as he indulges in his dark desires.
American Psycho is a pretty gory one, so shield your eyes from this one if too much blood freaks you out.
It was good the first time watching it, but I think I liked it even better the second time around.
Some big names are in this horror classic, including Christian Bale, Reese Witherspoon, and Jared Leto!
There’s actually a sequel with Mila Kunis, but it’s more of a comedy horror and isn’t as good.
1 film available on Netflix, watch the trailer
