Best comedy movies on Crave Canada to binge-watch

The Devil Wears Prada (2006)

A college grad aspiring to be a journalist becomes an assistant to Miranda Priestly, one of New York City’s biggest magazine editors.

The Devil Wears Prada is a classic rom-com that never gets old, and I think I love it more watching it as an adult!

Anne Hathaway, Meryl Streep, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci all star in The Devil Wears Prada.

King of Staten Island (2020)

King of Staten Island is loosely based on Pete Davidson’s life growing up in Staten Island, including losing his father during 9/11 and entering the world of stand-up comedy.

It’s not the most wholesome movie, but it’s definitely inspiring.

If you like King of Staten Island, you might also like Awkwafina is Nora from Queens, a show based on comedian Awkwafina’s beginnings, which is also on Crave.

Eighth Grade (2018)

Kayla is a shy and introverted eighth grader who posts videos about self-confidence online.

The coming-of-age movie was written and directed by Bo Burnham, a comedian who you might recognize from YouTube!

He casted actual eighth graders for the film, and he actually found the lead actress on YouTube while researching about teenagers for the film.

Eight Grade is totally not something for kids to watch, even though it’s about kids.

Magic Mike (2012)

Experienced male stripper Mike shows the ropes to a 19-year-old he names the Kid.

Channing Tatum, Matthew McConaughey, and Alex Pettyfer star in Magic Mike!

Fun fact: it’s not a true story, but it’s inspired by Channing Tatum’s former life as a male stripper.

Sex and the City: The Movie (2008)

While a lot of people didn’t love the movies, I loved that it was an extension of the show.

Though I did watch the movies before I watched the show!

Sex and the City: The Movie is set four years after the show, and it’s basically a continuation of Carrie, Samantha, Charlotte, and Miranda’s lives.

You can watch the original show on Crave, as well as the new series, And Just Like That!

The new series is okay, but I might be saying that because I’m sad Kim Cattrall isn’t in it.

Elf (2003)

Elf is an iconic Christmas movie I watch with my family every single year.

It’s about a human named Buddy, who accidentally gets transported to the North Pole when he sneaks into Santa’s sack as a baby, and he travels to New York City as an adult who thinks he’s an elf.

He meets his real father, a cynical businessman, alongside his father’s loving wife and son.

Will Ferrell and Zooey Deschanel star in Elf!

Love Actually (2003)

Love Actually is one of those classic holiday movies you just have to watch every holiday season.

Different couples in London deal with their relationships in different ways, and it shows how complicated love can be.

It’s similar to He’s Just Not That Into You, New Year’s Eve, and Valentine’s Day, except it’s the OG movie in this format!

Groundhog Day (1993)

Self-centred weatherman Phil travels to a small town for an assignment, and wakes up the next morning realizing he’s reliving the same day over and over.

Groundhog Day was the first mainstream movie to popularize the whole time loop concept, and it’s a 90’s classic.

Bill Murray plays the main character, Phil!

The Hunt (2020)

Twelve strangers wake up in a clearing unaware of how they got there, and it turns out they’re being hunted for sport by a group of elitists.

It’s a super fun, action-packed thriller if that’s what you’re in the mood for!

Freaky (2020)

Freaky Friday meets Halloween in this horror-comedy.

When teenager Millie Kessler becomes the target of the Butcher, the town serial killer, they magically switch bodies with the power of a mystical dagger, and she discovers she only has 24 hours to get her identity back.

Freaky is a fun watch, and it’s suitable for even your friends who aren’t crazy about scary movies!

Kathryn Newton (Detective Pikachu and Big Little Lies) and Vince Vaughn star in this one!
