Best streaming services in Canada

Netflix
Netflix is probably the streaming service you’re most familiar with, and they have a different selection of shows in Canada vs. around the world.
Probably the best thing about Netflix is all their Netflix Originals, and the fact that they’re constantly releasing new content.
They also produce a lot of international content, which is really cool!

How much does Netflix cost?
Plans for Netflix Canada start at $9.99 a month, and you can stream content across most devices with wifi capabilities, such as your TV, phone, and tablet.
- Basic plan – $9.99 a month
- Standard plan – $13.99 a month
- Premium plan – $16.99 a month
How many devices can you have on Netflix?
The amount of devices you can have on Netflix depends on your plan, and it ranges from one to four devices.
- Basic plan – 1 device
- Standard plan – 2 devices
- Premium plan – 4 devices

What are the best shows and movies to watch on Netflix?
Some of my favourite shows on Netflix include Black Mirror (sci-fi), The Haunting of Hill House (horror), and Itaewon Class (Korean drama).
If you’re looking for more things to watch, I have blog posts all about the best TV shows and movies on Netflix Canada:

- Horror movies on Netflix
- Korean dramas on Netflix
- Animes on Netflix

Prime Video
Amazon has been investing a lot in Prime Video over the last few years, and they’ve been coming out with a lot of awesome Amazon Originals.
A lot of their earlier shows seemed to cater to a more older, American audience, but they’re coming out with more and more awesome stuff for all audiences!
How much does Prime Video cost?
The best thing about Prime Video is that it’s actually free.
Okay, not actually free, but it’s included in your Amazon Prime membership without any additional fees.
And most people get Amazon Prime for the free same, one, or two-day shipping, so technically Prime Video is just an extra free perk that’s included!
An Amazon Prime membership costs $7.99 a month or $79 annually.
If you don’t already have an Amazon Prime account, it’s definitely worth signing up to get Prime Video for free, and you can get a 30-day trial!

How many devices can you have on Prime Video?
There’s no limit to the amount of devices you can have on your Prime Video account, but there is a limit to how many accounts can stream at the same time.
You can stream up to 3 videos at the same time on the same Amazon account, and you can stream the same video on up to 2 devices at a time.

What are the best shows and movies to watch on Prime Video?
My fave shows on Prime Video include Invincible (animated action), Tell Me Your Secrets (drama), and Little Fires Everywhere (drama).

- Crave Mobile plan – $9.99 a month
You can access Crave’s entire library with both plans, but there are a few differences between the two.
The Crave Total plan costs $19.99 per month, which gives you the best quality streaming, downloads, up to 5 devices, and up to 4 streams at the same time.
The Crave Mobile plan costs $9.99 a month, and comes with good quality streaming, no downloads, and 1 device.
If you’re looking for a plan for the family, the Crave Total is definitely for you, while the Crave Mobile plan is more for individuals!

How many devices can you have on Crave?
You can have up to 5 devices registered to your Crave account, and 4 people can watch at the same time on different devices.
What are the best shows and movies to watch on Crave?
Of course, Game of Thrones and Westworld are both must-watch shows on Crave.
Handmaid’s Tale and Dexter are also both awesome, and are available on the basic Crave plan!
If you’re looking for more things to watch, I have blog posts all about the best TV shows and movies on Crave Canada:
Disney+
Disney+ is actually more than just kids’ movies and old school Disney classics.
They’ve got movies and shows from Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, National Geographic, and Star.
I’m currently watching Bob’s Burgers and Only Murders in the Building on Disney+.
If you do have kids, it’s definitely worth subscribing to – I literally watched Disney movies on repeat my entire childhood, and I’m sure you did too! 😛
How much does Disney+ cost?
It costs $11.99 a month or $119.99 a year, and you can watch all kinds of Disney shows and movies ad-free.
How many devices can you have on Disney+?
You can stream on up to 4 devices at a time on Disney+.
Apple TV+
There honestly isn’t a huge selection of shows and movies available to stream on Apple TV+ yet, but they’ve been slowly rolling out new things with some big stars.
It’s mostly made up of Apple Originals so far like Servant (featuring Rupert Grint) and Lisey’s Story (with Julianne Moore and Clive Owen), which are actually pretty amazing and worth watching.
They’ve also got some older Charlie Brown and Fraggle Rock movies!
How much does Apple TV+ cost?
It costs $4.99 a month to subscribe to Apple TV+.
You can also get a free 1 year trial of Apple TV+ free if you purchase an Apple product, so that’s pretty nice.
Viki
For all my fellow Asian drama lovers, Viki has tons of different shows and movies from across Asia.
I’ve only watched Korean dramas on Viki, but there are a lot of shows and movies from Japan, China, Thailand, and more.
Plus, they even have their own Viki Originals, which you can only watch on the platform.
How much does Viki cost?
You can watch quite a few shows and movies on Viki for free (with ads), while some things only have a few episodes for free (to give you a ‘lil preview).
You can subscribe to two different plans:
- Viki Pass Standard – $4.99 USD a month or $49.99 USD a year
- Viki Pass Plus – $9.99 USD a month or $99.99 USD a year
The Viki Pass Standard is $4.99 USD a month to watch their Standard shows and movies, while the Viki Pass Plus is $9.99 USD a month and comes with their Standard and Plus shows and movies.
What are the best shows and movies to watch on Viki?
Descendants of the Sun, The Flower of Evil, and Happiness are all great shows you can watch on Crunchyroll.
Crunchyroll
If you’re a big anime fan, you definitely want to subscribe to Crunchyroll.
Adam got me into anime last year, and now I actually watch shows without him lol!
How much does Crunchyroll cost?
Crunchyroll is actually completely free to download, but you will have to watch ads while streaming.
You can subscribe to two different tiered plans:
- Fan – $7.99 a month
- Mega Fan – $9.99 a month or $99.99 for a year
And here’s a pro-tip: the cost is actually different on desktop vs. mobile.
The prices above reflect desktop pricing, and if you subscribe via mobile, it’s actually $9.99 and $12.99 a month for those plans!
The reason is because Apple charges Crunchyroll fees, so subscribe on desktop to save a couple bucks a month.
The yearly Mega Fan plan is still $99.99 on mobile though, if you prefer to pre-pay ahead of time!
How many devices can you have on Crunchyroll?
If you have family members or friends who also like anime, it’s worth sharing the Mega Fan plan – it’s cheaper than doing the individual Fan plan, and you can stream on up to 4 devices!
- Fan – 1 device
- Mega Fan – 4 devices
What are the best shows and movies to watch on Crunchyroll?
Attack on Titan, Jujustsu Kaisen, and Dr. Stone are all great shows you can watch on Crunchyroll.
Shudder
Shudder is the perfect streaming service for horror buffs – they’ve got everything horror and more.
They have a lot of OG horror films, as well as their own Shudder Originals!
It’s $5.99 a month or $56.99 a year (a discounted rate of $4.75 per month).
You can also have it as an add-on channel on Prime Video for the same price, so you can watch it on the Prime Video website or app instead!
hayu
If you’re a fan of reality TV, hayu is the streaming platform for you.
From Keeping Up with the Kardashians to The Real Housewives, they have plenty of reality TV shows for you to binge-watch.
It’s $5.99 a month, and you can get a free 7-day trial of it.
You can also have it as an add-on channel on Prime Video for the same price, so you can watch it on the Prime Video website or app instead!
CBC Gem
CBC Gem is another completely free streaming service in Canada, and you can pay $4.99 a month to have an ad-free Premium subscription.
From Kim’s Convenience to Workin’ Moms, they have a lot of great shows you can stream full episodes of!
They even have a lot of Canadian films you can watch, like Enemy (with Jake Gyllenhaal) or Dr. Cabbie.
Global TV
Anyone else not subscribe to cable anymore, but subscribe to many different streaming services in Canada? Same.
No worries if you don’t have cable – you can stream a lot of things for free on the Global TV website or app, but there are ads.
You can watch the latest episode of a lot of cable shows, and they get “locked” after 7 days where you can only watch with a cable subscription.
Some shows are also completely free to stream, like seasons 5-9 of both Big Brother Canada and Top Chef Canada!
Just search for the “Limited Free Access” label under different shows.
