23 Best Horror Movies on Crave Canada

Looking for the best horror movies on Crave Canada to binge-watch this May 2021?

Crave always comes out with the latest box office hits, and of course they’ve got tons of awesome horror and thriller movies.

While I love movies of all genres, I’m big on horror films – they’re just so fun to watch.

The more terrifying, the better tbh!

If you’re looking for more stuff to watch on Crave, I also have blog posts on the best movies on Crave Canada and the best shows on Crave Canada.

Here are some of the best horror and thriller movies to watch on Crave Canada, in my personal opinion!

The best horror movies on Crave Canada

It: Chapter Two

27 years after being defeated by the Losers’ Club, Pennywise comes back to terrorize the town of Derry.

Now adults with their own lives, the members of the Losers’ Club reunite to get rid of Pennywise once and for all.

If you don’t like seeing children being killed (or eaten alive), you won’t want to watch the It movies – it’s one of the scariest horror franchises out there.

I personally thought the first It was better than Chapter Two, but it was still nice to close off the story.

Port Hope, Ontario
We visited Port Hope, Ontario while they were filming It: Chapter Two. They had American flags up all over! We also tried to take photos of the theme park set, but we got kicked out.

Annabelle Comes Home

The Annabelle series is a spinoff of the Conjuring franchise, which tells the stories of the late Ed and Lorraine Warren and the paranormal cases they investigated.

Annabelle Comes Home is the third instalment of the Annabelle series, and of course it’s scary as heck.

While Ed and Lorraine are traveling to investigate a case, they leave their daughter Judy in the care of a babysitter.

An unexpected visitor releases Annabelle from her locked case, who wreaks havoc on the household.

I don’t know what it is about old dolls, but they freak me out.

The Prodigy

Miles is a brilliant child prodigy, or so it seems.

His behaviour starts to become increasingly violent, and his mother realizes a supernatural force may be at play.

The Prodigy is a pretty good horror film on Crave that’s definitely worth a watch!

Taylor Schilling (Piper in Orange is the New Black on Netflix Canada) also stars as the mother.

Brightburn

Tori and Kyle adopt a baby boy named Brandon, who starts to get superpowers when he turns 12 and uses them for sinister purposes.

Brightburn has plenty of gruesome scenes if you’re into that kind of stuff.

Elizabeth Banks is also in this one!

Doctor Sleep

While it may be impossible to top Stanley Kubrick’s The Shining, Mike Flanagan does a pretty good job with the sequel, Doctor Sleep.

Based on Stephen King’s novel of the same name, it tells the story of Danny Torrance as a grown adult, who still struggles with his trauma from what happened at the Overlook Hotel.

It has a lot of odes to the OG movie, which is cool to see.

Blood Quantum

The world gets taken over by a zombie virus, and the Mi’qmaq community of Red Crow is immune to it.

If you’re a fan of gore, you’ll definitely enjoy this one.

Blood Quantum features an almost entirely Indigenous cast, and it’s also a Canadian film!

Parasite

Parasite is a black comedy and thriller about a wealthy family and a working-class family, and how their lives get intertwined.

It’s a wild and anxiety-filled, and definitely worth sitting through subtitles for.

The South Korean film won four Oscars, and it’s currently the highest grossing film in South Korea!

The Hunt

Twelve strangers wake up in a clearing unaware of how they got there, and it turns out they’re being hunted for sport by a group of elitists.

It’s a super fun, action-packed thriller if that’s what you’re in the mood for!

There’s also quite a bit of gore if you’re into that.

Underwater

Water crashes through the walls of an underwater drilling station, and researchers must walk across the sea floor to find safety at the main part of the facility.

Kirsten Stewart does an incredible job in Underwater!

Contagion

The death of an American woman and her son lead to the discovery of a deadly and infectious virus, which leads to a worldwide pandemic.

Contagion came out in 2011, but it sounds like a familiar story, doesn’t it?

The Fly

Seth Brundle is a brilliant scientist who creates a teleportation device, and decides to test his machine on himself.

He manages to teleport himself, but unknowingly has a special guest in the pod with him.

The Fly is an 80s horror/sci-fi, and while it does feel very 80s, it’s still a good one!

The special effects are super gross, so cover your eyes if things like Dr. Pimple Popper gross you out.

Corporate Animals

If you’re in the mood for a comedy horror, you’ll enjoy Corporate Animals.

An egotistical CEO leads her employees on a corporate team-building trip in New Mexico, and they get trapped underground after a cave-in.

The Wolf of Snow Hollow

Brutal murders happen every full moon in Snow Hollow, and the townspeople start to think there’s a werewolf in town.

The Wolf of Snow Hollow is a pretty fun horror comedy, and while I’m not typically a fan of werewolf movies, this one was pretty good.

YouTuber Jimmy Tatro (LifeAccordingToJimmy) also stars in this movie!

Random Acts of Violence

A famous comic book writer discovers gruesome events are happening around a character in his comics.

It’s pretty gory, so don’t watch if that kind of stuff freaks you out.

This is the first time I’ve personally seen Jay Baruchel do anything outside of comedy, and he actually directs and stars in Random Acts of Violence!

Assassination Nation

Four high school girls in Salem fight for their lives after a hacker exposes everyone in town’s secrets and sends the town into chaos.

The real action in Assassination Nation takes awhile, but it’s still an interesting watch.

Ready or Not

After marrying the man of her dreams at his family’s estate, Grace spends her wedding night playing a deadly game of hide and seek.

Spiral has some pretty good jump scares if you’re into that, although it’s more of a psychological horror!

Lochlyn Munro (Betty’s dad in Riverdale on Netflix) stars as one of the dads.

The Invisible Man

Cecilia’s abusive ex-boyfriend fakes his own death and becomes invisible to stalk and torment her.

When no one around her believes her, she takes matters into her own hands.

While I didn’t love The Invisible Man, I do love Elisabeth Moss, and it’s still an entertaining watch if you’re in the mood for a thriller.

It’s based on a novel of the same name by H.G. Wells!

Within These Walls

After single mother Mel breaks up with her boyfriend, strange things start to happen in her house.

Within These Walls is a creepy one if you’re into thrillers!

You Should Have Left

Strange things start to happen when a couple and their daughter rent a secluded vacation home in the countryside.

When I saw the trailer, I thought there’d be a meaning behind the age gap relationship with Kevin Bacon and Amanda Seyfried, but it’s completely irrelevant to the story.

You Should Have Left is not a bad watch if you’re into supernatural thrillers!

Come to Daddy

I wasn’t expecting much when I decided to watch this Elijah Wood horror movie, but it’s actually worth watching.

Come to Daddy a hilarious horror-comedy film, and the “raisin eyes” bit absolutely kills me.

It’s weird seeing Elijah Wood in horror movies – you’ll freak out even more if you see him in Maniac.

Ma

A middle-aged woman named Sue Ann allows a group of teens to party in her basement, and they start to realize her true character.

Snatchers

After high school student Sara loses her virginity to her boyfriend, she wakes up the next day 9 months pregnant with an alien baby.

Rabid

Shy Sarah gets into a brutal accident and undergoes an experimental treatment that helps her recover quickly, but strange side effects start to show up.

Although the movie isn’t a great one, you’ll like watching Rabid for the gore.

It’s a remake of the 1977 David Cronenberg movie of the same name.
