Looking for the best movies to binge-watch on Crave Canada this May 2021?

From Joker to Parasite, Crave gets a lot of popular box office hits, but there are tons more great movies to watch.

You’ll find plenty of newer movies on Crave, but they’re starting to get some oldies as well.

Whether you’re into horror movies or romantic comedies, you’ll definitely find something to enjoy on this list.

If you’re looking for more stuff to watch on Crave, I also have blog posts on the best shows on Crave Canada and the best horror movies on Crave Canada.

Here are some of the best movies and films to binge-watch on Crave Canada!

How does Crave Canada work?

What’s included in Crave?

The basic plan for Crave Canada is $9.99, but you’re going to want to upgrade to the Movies + HBO add-on to get all the good shows and movies.

The Movies + HBO add-on is an additional $9.99, which is a total of $19.98 a month.

With the add-on, it’s more expensive than other streaming services, but it’s definitely worth it for the extra movies and HBO shows.

They still have some HBO shows and episodes on the basic plan, but you won’t get things like the later seasons of Game of Thrones.

How many devices can you have on Crave?

You can have up to 5 devices registered to your Crave account, but only two people can watch at the same time on different devices.

You can watch on up to three devices if you have the maxTV set-top box!

Prices for Crave Canada:
  • Basic plan – $9.99 a month
  • Movies + HBO add-on – $9.99 a month
  • Starz add-on – $5.99 a month

The best movies to binge-watch on Crave Canada

Comedy

Good Boys (2019)

After 12-year-old Max gets invited to his first kissing party, he enlists his two best friends to skip school so they can learn how to kiss.

I didn’t have any expectations for Good Boys, but I literally could not stop laughing throughout the entire movie.

It’s just so ridiculous and hilarious to watch their adventure.

Although it’s a movie about 12-year-old boys, it’s definitely not for kids to watch.

Seth Rogen is also one of the executive producers for the film!

Eighth Grade (2018)

The coming-of-age movie was written and directed by Bo Burnham, a comedian who you might recognize from YouTube!

He casted actual eighth graders for the film, and he actually found the lead actress on YouTube while researching about teenagers for the film.

Like Good Boys, Eight Grade is totally not something for kids to watch, even though it’s about kids.

You’ll definitely remember watching Space Jam if you were a 90’s baby.

Corporate Animals (2019)

An egotistical CEO leads her employees on a corporate team-building trip in New Mexico, and they get trapped underground after a cave-in.

Corporate Animals is so gruesome and ridiculously hilarious, but it’s definitely not for anyone who doesn’t like gore.

It’s more of a horror comedy, so watch at your own risk!

Fun fact: all MLB players wear the number 42 in April to commemorate Jackie Robinson’s accomplishments, and the number 42 is the only number retired in baseball.

Chadwick Boseman plays Jackie Robinson in the film, and he’s incredible.

Fantasy

Pan’s Labyrinth (2006)

Pan’s Labyrinth is actually one of my favourite films of all-time.

In 1940s Spain, Ofelia and her pregnant mother move into her stepfather’s house.

On the property, Ofelia meets a faun, who tells her that she’s a reincarnation of an immortal princess, and she has to complete three tasks to return to her kingdom.

The creatures are pretty scary-looking, so it’s probably not best for kids to watch.

It’s in Spanish, but it’s absolutely worth sitting through subtitles for.

Action & Adventure

Batman franchise (1989, 1995, 1997, & 2005)

If you’re into Batman, you can watch Batman (1989), Batman Forever (1995), Batman & Robin (1997), and Batman Begins (2005) on Crave.

The funny thing is that different actors play Batman in every single one of these films, and personally I think Christian Bale is my favourite.

You can also watch the animation Batman: Mask of the Phantasm (1993) on Crave.

5 films available on Crave with Movies + HBO add-on

John Wick franchise (2014 & 2017)

After the dog his recently deceased wife gifted him is killed, retired hitman John Wick seeks vengeance from the mobsters.

I’m not typically into the action genre, but John Wick is a franchise I really like!

You can watch the first two films on Crave Canada, and the third movie on Amazon Prime Video.

2 films available on Crave with Movies + HBO add-on, watch the trailers for parts one and two

Independence Day (1996)

Aliens invade earth and destroy major cities, and an unlikely group of people unite to save humankind.

I’m not typically one for alien movies, but Independence Day is a good one.

Plus, young Will Smith is in it!

Destroyer (2018)

Erin Bell had her life destroyed when she went undercover as a young cop, and she has to face her demons years later to make peace with her past.

Nicole Kidman stars in Destroyer, and I totally didn’t recognize her at first – she’s definitely not her usual pretty and primp self in this one!

Tatiana Maslany (from Orphan Black, a show on Crave) also stars in the movie.

The Call of the Wild (2020)

I didn’t think I’d enjoy a movie solely centred around dogs, but it was actually a really great film.

A friendly doggo named Buck gets thrown from his domestic Californian lifestyle to the harsh conditions of the Yukon during the Gold Rush, where he experiences the adventure of a lifetime..

Thriller

Parasite (2019)

Parasite is a black comedy and thriller about a wealthy family and a working-class family, and how their lives get intertwined.

It’s a wild and anxiety-filled, and definitely worth sitting through subtitles for.

The film won four Oscars, and it’s currently the highest grossing film in South Korea!

Contagion (2011)

The death of an American woman and her son lead to the discovery of a deadly and infectious virus, which leads to a worldwide pandemic.

Contagion came out in 2011, but it sounds like a familiar story, eh?

1 film available on Crave with Movies + HBO add-on, watch the trailer

Girl (2020)

A young woman returns to her small hometown to murder her abusive father, only to find out he’s already been murdered.

Girl definitely would not have been as captivating without Bella Thorne, who I think is an impeccable actress even if she is a controversial figure.

The movie was also filmed locally in Sudbury, Ontario, which is pretty cool!

Horror

There are some pretty good horror flicks that you can watch on Crave.

If you’re looking for an even bigger list, I’ve got a separate blog post all about the best horror movies on Crave!

The Hunt (2020)

Twelve strangers wake up in a clearing unaware of how they got there, and it turns out they’re being hunted for sport by a group of elitists.

It’s a super fun, action-packed thriller if that’s what you’re in the mood for!

There’s also quite a bit of gore, so there’s that.

It: Chapter Two (2019)

While I did like the first It movie more than Chapter Two, it was still nice to close off the story.

27 years after being defeated by the Losers’ Club, Pennywise comes back to terrorize the town of Derry.

All the members of the Losers’ Club are now grown adults with their own lives, and they reunite to get rid of Pennywise once and for all.

This is not a movie to watch if you don’t like seeing kids being killed (or eaten alive) – the first movie gave me nightmares for months because of that.

Port Hope, Ontario
We visited Port Hope in Ontario while they were filming It: Chapter Two. They had American flags up all over! We also tried to take photos of the theme park set, but we got kicked out.

Annabelle Comes Home (2019)

Annabelle Comes Home is the third instalment of the Annabelle series, and of course it’s scary as heck.

While Ed and Lorraine Warren are traveling to investigate a case, they leave their daughter Judy in the care of a babysitter.

An unexpected visitor releases Annabelle from her locked case, who wreaks havoc on the household.

There’s just something extra terrifying about dolls – Chucky, Annabelle – they’re just so darn freaky.

Underwater (2020)

Water crashes through the walls of an underwater drilling station, and researchers must walk across the sea floor to find safety at the main part of the facility.

Little do they know, mysterious creatures are lurking nearby.

Kirsten Stewart does an incredible job in Underwater!

The Turning (2020)

Kate Mandell takes on the job of a nanny for two young orphans, who live in an isolated gothic mansion.

When strange things start to happen, she starts to suspect there might be a malevolent entity among them.

Finn Wolfhard (Mike from Stranger Things on Netflix) stars in The Turning, and it definitely weirded me out having seen him as a little kid in Stranger Things lol.

1 film available on Crave with Movies + HBO add-on, watch the trailer

Doctor Sleep (2019)

While it may be impossible to top Stanley Kubrick’s The Shining, Mike Flanagan does a great job with the sequel, Doctor Sleep.

Based on Stephen King’s novel of the same name, it tells the story of Danny Torrance as a grown adult, who still struggles with his trauma from what happened at the Overlook Hotel.

Ready or Not (2019)

After marrying the man of her dreams at his family’s estate, Grace spends her wedding night playing a deadly game of hide and seek.

Ready or Not is a fun play on the whole sacrifice thing, and it’s got a lot of funny moments.

Random Acts of Violence (2019)

A famous comic book writer discovers gruesome events are happening around a character in his comics.

It’s pretty gory, so don’t watch if that kind of stuff freaks you out.

This is the first time I’ve personally seen Jay Baruchel do anything outside of comedy, and he actually directs and stars in Random Acts of Violence!

You Should Have Left (2020)

Strange things start to happen when a couple and their daughter rent a secluded vacation home in the countryside.

When I saw the trailer, I thought there’d be a meaning behind the age gap relationship with Kevin Bacon and Amanda Seyfried, but it’s completely irrelevant to the story.

You Should Have Left is not a bad watch if you’re into supernatural thrillers!

1 film available on Crave with Movies + HBO add-on, watch the trailer

Assassination Nation (2018)

Four high school girls in Salem fight for their lives after a hacker exposes everyone in town’s secrets and sends the town into chaos.

The real action in Assassination Nation takes awhile, but it’s still an interesting watch.

Documentary

Framing Britney Spears (2021)

You might’ve heard the news about Britney Spears’ father’s conservatorship over her life, and Framing Britney Spears goes into a deep dive about it.

I remember a lot of the things mentioned in the doc as a kid, and it’s really eye-opening hearing about them as an adult.

Fake Famous (2021)

Three different people in Los Angeles with small followings get turned into influencers as a social experiment, which involves buying Instagram followers and taking “fake” photos.

While Fake Famous is a really interesting documentary to watch, it’s clearly very biased and not representative of the actual influencer world lol.
