Rom-com movies on Netflix Canada
50 First Dates (2004)
After meeting Lucy, who has short-term memory loss, womanizer Henry tries to woo her every single day.
50 First Dates is one of my favourite Adam Sandler movies, and it’s absolutely adorable.
It’s also set in Oahu, so it’s a nice little movie escape if you want to travel while sitting on your couch!

13 Going on 30 (2004)
I’ve seen 13 Going on 30 a bajillion times and it never gets old.
On her 13th birthday, Jenna wishes to become thirty, flirty, and thriving, and that’s exactly what she gets.
She wakes up the next day as a successful 30-year-old woman, except she still has her 13-year-old brain.

Made of Honor (2008)
After Tom finds out his best friend Hannah is engaged, he realizes he’s in love with her and tries to win her heart.
Made of Honor is an adorable rom-com that I’ve probably watched dozens of times with my family, and it never gets old.
1 film available on Netflix, watch the trailer
Bridesmaids (2011)
Bridesmaids is one of those classic comedies that never gets old.
Annie is asked by her best friend Lillian to be her maid of honour, but it all turns into a disaster when she gets into a feud with one of the other bridesmaids.
If you like this movie, you’ll also enjoy Wine Country, which you can also watch on Netflix!
1 film available on Netflix, watch the trailer
Pitch Perfect franchise (2012-2017)
College student Beca joins an all-girl acapella group filled with all kinds of different personalities.
She helps break them out of their traditional ideals as they work together to compete in college music competitions against other top acapella groups at college competitions.
There are tons of popular names in here, including Anna Kendrick, Rebel Wilson, and Brittany Snow!
The original Pitch Perfect is probably my favourite of all the movies, and you can watch all three movies on Netflix Canada.
It’s an awesome musical comedy that’s perfect for any music lovers!
3 films available on Netflix, watch the trailer
A Cinderella Story (2004)
A teenager is forced to do all the chores at home for her cruel stepmother, and things start to look up for her when she begins anonymously messaging the most popular boy in school.
Hilary Duff, Chad Michael Murray, and Jennifer Coolidge all star in A Cinderella Story!
I watched this movie a bajillion times as a kid, and it’ll forever be one of the most memorable movies of my childhood.
If you can’t get enough of Jennifer Coolidge, you definitely need to watch Legally Blonde (on Prime Video) and The White Lotus (on Crave) – she’s absolutely hilarious and such a gem.
1 film available on Netflix, watch the trailer
Friends with Benefits (2011)
Jamie, a headhunter, recruits Dylan to work as an art director at GQ in New York City.
Fed up with relationships, they decide to become friends with benefits, and things get complicated.
Mila Kunis and Justin Timberlake star in this one, and they’re a great duo!
1 film available on Netflix, watch the trailer
Just Go With It (2011)
A plastic surgeon invites his assistant and her children to join him and his young girlfriend on a trip to Hawaii, and things get complicated.
I adore both Jennifer Aniston and Adam Sandler, and they’re great together in Just Go With It!
1 film available on Netflix, watch the trailer
He’s Just Not That into You (2009)
He’s Just Not That into You is a cute rom-com that follows several different people and their love (or heartbreak) stories, and they all connect together somehow.
It’s a star-studded cast with the likes of Jennifer Aniston, Drew Barrymore, and so many other awesome actors and actresses.
New Year’s Eve is another similar movie where it follows a bunch of different people who are connected!
1 film available on Netflix, watch the trailer
Burlesque (2010)
Ali leaves her job as a waitress to pursue a career on stage, and she ends up becoming a lead dancer and singer in a club.
Cher and Christina Aguilera are amazing in Burlesque – it’s one of my family’s favourite movies!
1 film available on Netflix, watch the trailer
17 Again (2009)
Mike O’Donnell gave up his dream of becoming a basketball star to marry his high school sweetheart and raise their child, but he regrets his life choices as a middle-aged man.
One day his wish to become 17 again gets granted, and he has a chance to relive his youth again and redo the choices he made.
If you haven’t already seen this movie, Zac Efron plays the young Mike O’Donnell!
1 film available on Netflix, watch the trailer
Nappily Ever After (2018)
Violet lives a seemingly perfect life, with a great job, great boyfriend, and great hair.
After an incident at the hair salon, she realizes her life wasn’t so perfect after all, and she embarks on a journey of self-discovery.
Nappily Ever After is a happy, feel-good rom com that’s more about self-love than romantic love.
1 film available on Netflix, watch the trailer
The Broken Hearts Gallery (2020)
After Lucy gets broken up with by her boyfriend, she meets a hotelier named Nick, who helps her create a gallery where people can leave memorabilia from their past relationships.
The Broken Hearts Gallery is a cute little rom-com, and Selena Gomez is the executive producer!
It might remind you of The Museum of Broken Relationships in LA, but I believe I saw something about this movie being written before the museum came out.
1 film available on Netflix, watch the trailer
The Kissing Booth (2018, 2020, & 2021)
Elle has never been kissed before, and she decides to run a kissing booth for a school fundraiser.
She ends up locking lips with her long-time crush, who also happens to be her best friend’s brother.
The Kissing Booth may be cliché, but it’s still a cute story that’s enjoyable to watch, even though it really didn’t need 3 separate movies.
Joey King is incredible as an actress, and she’s really amazing to watch on screen!
She and Jacob Elordi actually dated in real life, though they’re not together anymore.
3 films available on Netflix, watch the trailer
Work It (2020)
Quinn is a nerdy high school senior desperate to learn how to dance in order to get into her dream college.
Although I’m not much of a dancer myself, I’ve always enjoyed watching dance movies like Step Up and Stomp the Yard.
Work It is a fun Netflix original that was actually filmed here in Toronto!
A lot of the actors in the film are professional dancers, which is really cool!

Mean Girls (2004)
Mean Girls is iconic to our generation, and it will never not be funny.
After moving from Africa to an American suburb, Cady transitions into becoming a regular high school girl.
Alongside two friends she meets, they try to take down the Plastics, a trio of popular girls who rule the school.
The movie was also filmed in Toronto, which is pretty cool!
It’s one of the best and most iconic comedy movies to watch on Netflix Canada.
1 film available on Netflix, watch the trailer
Someone Great (2019)
Although Someone Great is a rom-com, I’d say it’s more about love in friendships than romantic love.
After Jenny and her long-term boyfriend break up, she and her two best friends go on one last adventure around New York City together before she leaves for her dream job in San Francisco.
The soundtrack is great, the cast is great, the storyline is great – everything about this movie is great.
It’s now one of my favourite rom coms of all-time – I think I watched it 3 times in the same week the first time I saw it!
1 film available on Netflix, watch the trailer
Seriously Single (2020)
Dineo craves a committed relationship and Noni loves the single life, and they both go on a journey of self-discovery.
Seriously Single is sort of like a rom-com, but it’s ultimately about self-love and friendship.
It’s a super cute movie that’ll give you the good feels.

Comedy action movies on Netflix Canada
Jumanji: The Next Level (2019)
Four high school students get trapped in a magical video game during detention, and they get thrown into the mysterious Jumanji world.
The concept is the same as the original 1995 film, but with a video game rather than a board game!
Both the 1995 and 2010s versions are great in their own ways!
1 film available on Netflix, watch the trailer
Miss Congeniality franchise (2000 & 2005)
A female FBI agent goes undercover as a contestant at the Miss United States pageant, but she prides herself in being “one of the boys” and is horrified at the idea of becoming a girly girl.
Sandra Bullock is absolutely adorable and hilarious in Miss Congeniality.
You can watch both the first and second movie on Netflix Canada!

Superbad (2007)
Three friends are invited to a house party, and they spend a whole day trying to score enough alcohol to impress the girls they like and kickstart their sex lives before college.
Jonah Hill, Michael Cera, Seth Rogen, Emma Stone, and Christopher Mintz-Plasse all star in this hilarious coming-of-age teen comedy!

The House Bunny (2008)
A former Playboy Bunny teaches an awkward group of sorority girls about how to make boys like them.
It’s so good and absolutely hilarious.

We’re the Millers (2013)
David, a drug dealer, is forced by his boss to smuggle drugs from Mexico.
He ends up hiring a stripper, petty thief, and teenage neighbour to play his fake family and help him smuggle the drugs.
I remember watching We’re the Millers in theatres when it came out and thought it was absolutely hilarious.
Jennifer Aniston, Jason Sudeikis, Will Poulter, and Emma Roberts all star in it!

Horrible Bosses franchise (2011 & 2014)
Nick, Dale, and Kurt all hate their horrible bosses, and after a drunken night out, decide to hire an assassin to murder them.
Of course, things don’t go as planned – quite horribly actually.
This movie is absolutely hilarious, and there’s also a sequel you can watch on Netflix!
Jason Bateman, Charlie Day, Jason Sudeikis, and Jennifer Aniston star in both movies.

Me Time (2022)
A stay-at-home dad finds himself some “me time” for the first time in years, and he reconnects with his old best friend for a wild weekend.
Kevin Hart, Mark Wahlberg, and Regina Hall all star in Me Time!
1 film available on Netflix, watch the trailer
The Wrong Missy (2020)
I wasn’t expecting much when I added The Wrong Missy to my watchlist, but it’s absolutely hilarious.
Tim invites the woman of his dreams to come on a work retreat to Hawaii, and accidentally texts a woman he went on a bad date with.
It’s very cliché, but still an enjoyable movie worth watching if you’re in the mood for something light-hearted and fun.
David Spade and Lauren Lapkus are great together in the film!

Comedy drama movies on Netflix Canada
Click (2006)
If you’re in for laughs and tears, then you should definitely watch Click.
Adam Sandler plays a workaholic architect who comes across a mysterious remote that lets him rewind and fast-forward parts of his life.
The remote begins to malfunction, and he starts to lose control of his life.
I watched this movie a bazillion times with my family, and I think I even still have the DVD.
1 film available on Netflix, watch the trailer
Hustlers (2019)
Destiny works as a stripper to make ends meet, taking care of her daughter and grandmother.
She meets Ramona, a veteran exotic dancer, who shows her how to swindle money from rich clients.
Hustlers is based on a true story that’s actually very fascinating!
Jennifer Lopez, Constance Wu, Lili Reinhart, and Cardi B are all part of the cast.
1 film available on Netflix, watch the trailer
Fatherhood (2021)
Fatherhood is based on a true story of a father who raises his daughter alone after his wife dies immediately after childbirth.
Have a tissue box ready ’cause it’s an emotional one.
Kevin Hart stars as the dad, and he’s actually pretty good in a drama role – he also stars in a drama series called True Story on Netflix.
1 film available on Netflix, watch the trailer
Shiva Baby (2020)
A young college student encounters both her sugar daddy and her ex-girlfriend while at a Jewish funeral service with her parents.
Shiva Baby is super anxiety-ridden and wild ride, and it’s definitely worth a watch.
The whole film is pretty much filmed in one location, the house where the funeral service is being held, which makes it feel so claustrophobic!
1 film available on Netflix, watch the trailer
Thriller & horror comedies on Netflix Canada
Parasite (2019)
Parasite is a black comedy and thriller about a wealthy family and a working-class family, and how their lives get intertwined.
It’s wild and anxiety-filled, and definitely worth sitting through subtitles for.
The film won four Oscars, and it’s currently the highest grossing film in South Korea!
South Korea produces tons of incredible films and TV shows, and Netflix has released a lot of Netflix Original Korean dramas over the years!

Stephanie, a widowed, single mother, meets Emily, a seemingly glamorous career woman with the perfect family and life.
When Emily mysteriously disappears, Stephanie launches her own investigation and finds more secrets than she bargained for.
