Rom-com movies on Netflix Canada
50 First Dates (2004)
After meeting Lucy, who has short-term memory loss, womanizer Henry tries to woo her every single day.
50 First Dates is one of my favourite Adam Sandler movies, and it’s absolutely adorable.
It’s also set in Oahu, so it’s a nice little movie escape if you want to travel while sitting on your couch!
1 film available on Netflix, watch the trailer
Made of Honor (2008)
After Tom finds out his best friend Hannah is engaged, he realizes he’s in love with her and tries to win her heart.
Made of Honor is an adorable rom-com that I’ve probably watched dozens of times with my family, and it never gets old.
1 film available on Netflix, watch the trailer
She’s the Man (2006)
When Viola’s football team is dissolved, she disguises herself as her twin brother to play on the boys’ team instead.
She’s the Man is a super cute movie, and it also never gets old.
Amanda Bynes and Channing Tatum star in this iconic movie!
1 film available on Netflix, watch the trailer
A Cinderella Story (2004)
A teenager is forced to do all the chores at home for her cruel stepmother, and things start to look up for her when she begins anonymously messaging the most popular boy in school.
Hilary Duff, Chad Michael Murray, and Jennifer Coolidge all star in A Cinderella Story!
I watched this movie a bajillion times as a kid, and it’ll forever be one of the most memorable movies of my childhood.
If you can’t get enough of Jennifer Coolidge, you definitely need to watch Legally Blonde (on Prime Video) and The White Lotus (on Crave) – she’s absolutely hilarious and such a gem.
1 film available on Netflix, watch the trailer
Friends with Benefits (2011)
Jamie, a headhunter, recruits Dylan to work as an art director at GQ in New York City.
Fed up with relationships, they decide to become friends with benefits, and things get complicated.
Mila Kunis and Justin Timberlake star in this one, and they’re great together!
1 film available on Netflix, watch the trailer
Just Go With It (2011)
A plastic surgeon invites his assistant and her children to join him and his young girlfriend on a trip to Hawaii, and things get complicated.
I adore both Jennifer Aniston and Adam Sandler, and they’re great together in Just Go With It!
1 film available on Netflix, watch the trailer
He’s Just Not That into You (2009)
He’s Just Not That into You is a cute rom com that follows several different people and their love (or heartbreak) stories, and they all connect together somehow.
It’s a star-studded cast with the likes of Jennifer Aniston, Drew Barrymore, and so many other awesome actors and actresses.
New Year’s Eve is another similar concept where it shows the stories of a bunch of different people who are connected in some way!
1 film available on Netflix, watch the trailer
Think Like a Man (2012 & 2014)
I watched Think Like a Man when it came out in theatres back then and loved it.
It’s a romantic comedy based on Steve Harvey’s book Act Like a Lady, Think Like a Man.
The movie follows four couples, with each of the women reading Steve Harvey’s book.
As the women start applying Harvey’s teachings into their own relationships, the men try to turn the tables using the same teachings.
There’s also a sequel available on Netflix, Think Like a Man Too!
2 films available on Netflix
Burlesque (2010)
Ali leaves her job as a waitress to pursue a career on stage, and she ends up becoming a lead dancer and singer in a club.
Cher and Christina Aguilera are amazing in Burlesque – it’s one of my family’s favourite movies!
1 film available on Netflix, watch the trailer
Nappily Ever After (2018)
Violet lives a seemingly perfect life, with a great job, great boyfriend, and great hair.
After an incident at the hair salon, she realizes her life wasn’t so perfect after all, and she embarks on a journey of self-discovery.
Nappily Ever After is a happy, feel-good rom com that’s more about self-love than romantic love.
1 film available on Netflix, watch the trailer
The Broken Hearts Gallery (2020)
After Lucy gets broken up with by her boyfriend, she meets a hotelier named Nick, who helps her create a gallery where people can leave memorabilia from their past relationships.
The Broken Hearts Gallery is a cute little rom-com, and Selena Gomez is the executive producer!
It might remind you of The Museum of Broken Relationships in LA, but I believe I saw something about this movie being written before the museum came out.
1 film available on Netflix, watch the trailer
Emma (2020)
Emma is a beautiful, spoiled rich girl who loves playing matchmaker with her friends, and her meddling leads her to find her own romance.
Anya Taylor-Joy from Queen’s Gambit (one of the most popular shows on Netflix) plays the role of Emma!
Emma is actually based on a Jane Austen novel of the same name – the same author as Pride and Prejudice.
1 film available on Netflix, watch the trailer
She’s All That (1999)
High school jock Zach gets dared by his friends to take geeky Laney to the prom, and he ends up falling in love with her.
She’s All That is a classic 90’s rom-com, and you can actually also watch the 2021 remake He’s All That on Netflix as well!
It’s definitely not the same as the iconic original movie, but it’s still a fun watch.
1 film available on Netflix, watch the trailer
Work It (2020)
Quinn is a nerdy high school senior desperate to learn how to dance in order to get into her dream college.
Although I’m not much of a dancer myself, I’ve always enjoyed watching dance movies like Step Up and Stomp the Yard.
Work It is a fun Netflix original that was actually filmed here in Toronto!
A lot of the actors in the film are professional dancers, which is really cool!

Friendship comedy movies on Netflix Canada
Back to the Future (1985)
After teenage Marty McFly travels back in time and his high school-aged mom starts crushing on him, he tries to make his parents fall in love so that he can exist in the future.
Back to the Future is one of the few movie franchises where every single film is amazing.
Only the first of the movies is available to stream on Netflix, but you can stream all 3 on Prime Video!
1 film available on Netflix, watch the trailer
Someone Great (2019)
Although Someone Great is a rom-com, I’d say it’s more about love in friendships than romantic love.
After Jenny and her long-term boyfriend break up, she and her two best friends go on one last adventure around New York City together before she leaves for her dream job in San Francisco.
The soundtrack is great, the cast is great, the storyline is great – everything about this movie is great.
It’s now one of my favourite rom coms of all-time – I think I watched it 3 times in the same week the first time I saw it!
1 film available on Netflix, watch the trailer
21 Jump Street (2012 & 2014)
After two cops join the secret Jump Street unit, they use their youthful appearances to go undercover as high school students.
They realize high school is nothing like when they went years ago, and they have to once again confront the teenage terror and anxiety they thought they’d left behind.
Channing Tatum, Jonah Hill, Dave Franco, Brie Larson, and Ice Cube all star in 21 Jump Street, and there’s also a sequel called 22 Jump Street that you can watch on Netflix!
2 films available on Netflix, watch the trailer
Seriously Single (2020)
Dineo craves a committed relationship and Noni loves the single life, and they both go on a journey of self-discovery.
Seriously Single is sort of like a rom-com, but it’s ultimately about self-love and friendship.
It’s a super cute movie that’ll give you the good feels.
1 film available on Netflix, watch the trailer
Fantasy comedy movies on Netflix Canada
The Witches (2020)
Anne Hathaway and Octavia Spencer star in The Witches, a modern retelling of Roald Dahl’s book of the same name.
In the 60’s, a young orphan moves in with his grandma in a rural Alabama town, and they encounter some glamorous yet diabolical witches who hate children.
It’s fun seeing Anne Hathaway playing such different roles nowadays!
1 film available on Netflix, watch the trailer
Raunchy comedy movies on Netflix Canada
The House Bunny (2008)
A former Playboy Bunny teaches an awkward group of sorority girls about how to make boys like them.
It’s so good and absolutely hilarious.
Anna Faris and Emma Stone both star in The House Bunny, and so does Hugh Hefner and the lead singer of The All-American Rejects, Tyson Ritter!
1 film available on Netflix, watch the trailer
We’re the Millers (2013)
David, a drug dealer, is forced by his boss to smuggle drugs from Mexico.
He ends up hiring a stripper, petty thief, and teenage neighbour to play his fake family and help him smuggle the drugs.
I remember watching We’re the Millers in theatres when it came out and thought it was absolutely hilarious.
Jennifer Aniston, Jason Sudeikis, Will Poulter, and Emma Roberts all star in it!
1 film available on Netflix, watch the trailer
Horrible Bosses 2 (2014)
Nick, Dale, and Kurt decide to go into business, but things don’t go as they anticipated.
This movie is absolutely hilarious, and it’s actually a sequel to the first movie, where they all have to deal with their own horrible bosses.
Jason Bateman, Charlie Day, Jason Sudeikis, and Jennifer Aniston all star in the movies!
1 film available on Netflix, watch the trailer
Me Time (2022)
A stay-at-home dad finds himself some “me time” for the first time in years, and he reconnects with his old best friend for a wild weekend.
Kevin Hart, Mark Wahlberg, and Regina Hall all star in Me Time!
1 film available on Netflix, watch the trailer
The Wrong Missy (2020)
I wasn’t expecting much when I added The Wrong Missy to my watchlist, but it’s absolutely hilarious.
Tim invites the woman of his dreams to come on a work retreat to Hawaii, and accidentally texts a woman he went on a bad date with.
It’s very cliché, but still an enjoyable movie worth watching if you’re in the mood for something light-hearted and fun.
David Spade and Lauren Lapkus are great together in the film!

Comedy drama movies on Netflix Canada
King of Staten Island (2020)
King of Staten Island is loosely based on Pete Davidson’s life growing up in Staten Island, including losing his father during 9/11 and entering the world of stand-up comedy.
It’s not the most wholesome movie, but it’s definitely inspiring.
If you like King of Staten Island, you might also like Awkwafina is Nora from Queens, a show based on comedian Awkwafina’s beginnings, which you can stream on Crave.
1 film available on Netflix, watch the trailer
Hustlers (2019)
Destiny works as a stripper to make ends meet, taking care of her daughter and grandmother.
She meets Ramona, a veteran exotic dancer, who shows her how to swindle money from rich clients.
Hustlers is based on a true story that’s actually very fascinating!
Jennifer Lopez, Constance Wu, Lili Reinhart, and Cardi B are all part of the cast.
1 film available on Netflix, watch the trailer
Fatherhood (2021)
Fatherhood is based on a true story of a father who raises his daughter alone after his wife dies immediately after childbirth.
Have a tissue box ready ’cause it’s an emotional one.
Kevin Hart stars as the dad, and he’s actually pretty good in a drama role – he also stars in a drama series called True Story on Netflix.
1 film available on Netflix, watch the trailer
Shiva Baby (2020)
A young college student encounters both her sugar daddy and her ex-girlfriend while at a Jewish funeral service with her parents.
Shiva Baby is super anxiety-ridden and wild ride, and it’s definitely worth a watch.
The whole film is pretty much filmed in one location, the house where the funeral service is being held, which makes it feel so claustrophobic!
1 film available on Netflix, watch the trailer
Thriller & horror comedies on Netflix Canada
Parasite (2019)
Parasite is a black comedy and thriller about a wealthy family and a working-class family, and how their lives get intertwined.
It’s wild and anxiety-filled, and definitely worth sitting through subtitles for.
The film won four Oscars, and it’s currently the highest grossing film in South Korea!
South Korea produces tons of incredible films and TV shows, and Netflix has released a lot of Netflix Original Korean dramas over the years!
1 film available on Netflix, watch the trailer
The Hunt (2020)
Twelve strangers wake up in a clearing unaware of how they got there, and it turns out they’re being hunted for sport by a group of elitists.
It’s a super fun, action-packed thriller if that’s what you’re in the mood for!
There’s also quite a bit of gore, so there’s that.
1 film available on Netflix, watch the trailer
A Simple Favor (2017)
Stephanie, a widowed, single mother, meets Emily, a seemingly glamorous career woman with the perfect family and life.
