Kinka Izakaya, Toronto

Kinka Izakaya

I absolutely adore Kinka Izakaya, and it’s actually one of my favourite restaurants in Toronto.

Izakayas are a type of Japanese bar where tapas and drinks are served, and they’re so much fun to visit.

Kinka has several locations across the city, including in the Annex and in North York (by Yonge & Sheppard).

Choose between their 8-course set menu for $39 per person or their 10-course set menu for $56 per person – quite affordable for Valentine’s Day dinners in Toronto!

You can also order from their a la carte menu instead, and their Oyster Kakimayo and Kinoko Cheese Bibimbap are both must-order dishes.

They’ve also got fantastic Japanese-inspired cocktails that you can enjoy alongside your romantic dinner for two!

Bar’kada

This chic and upscale Filipino restaurant is the perfect spot to take your Valentine’s date.

Share the Bar’kada Platter for $155, which comes with a lil’ bit of everything, including their Honey Adobo Chicken Wings, Roasted Pork Belly, and Lola’s Lumpia.

For dessert, enjoy their incredible Ube Crème Brûlée.

You can also enjoy some of their signature Filipino-inspired cocktails with your Valentine’s Day dinner, like their Lychee Watermelon Vodka and their Tita Paloma.

Their space is super beautiful and modern, and they’ve even got a cool neon sign with their name on it!

Myth

Enjoy traditional Greek dishes at this upscale King West spot with a gorgeous Mykonos-inspired interior.

Order one of their “for the table” options, which come with a few different dishes to share.

The ASTAKOMAKARONADA ($120) comes with whole lobster, the PSARI STO ALATI ($125) comes with salt-crusted sea bass, and the SPALOBRIZOLA ($225) comes with a 40oz Tomahawk Steak.

If you and your date love seafood, order the Myth Raw Experience for $120, which comes with a variety of seafood dishes.

Definitely come back again during the summer months and enjoy their stunning patio!

Maison Selby Restaurant in Toronto

Maison Selby

Maison Selby is one of Toronto’s best French restaurants, and they serve up upscale French cuisine and craft cocktails in their gorgeous, century-old space.

Enjoy elevated French dishes like their Duck Liver Parfait with locally-sourced Brodflour baguette and their Steak Frites with your choice of flat iron or filet steak.

Order their 5-course Chef’s tasting menu for $99 per person, perfect for Valentine’s Day date night!

JaBistro

Sushi is the perfect date night dinner, especially if you’re looking to enjoy a special Valentine’s Day treat.

JaBistro is an amazing restaurant that’s part of the Kinka Family of restaurants, and they’re all about traditional Japanese sushi and sashimi with an elegant twist.

You can enjoy their 7-course prix fixe menu for $145 per person, which includes Lobster Miso Soup, Premium Sashimi Sampler, Ankake Chawanmushi, a variety of sushi, and Panna Cotta.

They’ve also got an 11th anniversary special for $111 per person, which features 5 courses.

It’s the perfect spot to take the seafood lover in your life!

Miku Toronto

Miku is another one of the best sushi restaurants in Toronto, and it’s a fantastic spot to take your date for Valentine’s Day.

Enjoy their Kaiseki menu for $175 per person – it’s a traditional Japanese dining experience where you get to have a bunch of small dishes on handcrafted Japanese plateware.

They also have wine and sake pairings available for an additional $60 per person.

Otherwise, you can order a la carte – you honestly can’t go wrong with anything on their menu!

Miku is most well-known for their fresh sashimi and decadent aburi oshi sushi rolls, but they’ve got other fabulous dishes as well.

Aside from sushi, they’ve also got French and Italian-inspired cooked dishes like Kaisen Soba Peperoncino.

You also need to try some of their special menu items created in collaboration with Chef Ryusuke Nakagawa, the Michelin Chef behind Aburi Hana.

The Japanese Crispy Chicken, Salmon Shinjo Salad, Hotate Crudo, and Wagyu Carpaccio are all so decadent.

Each dish is so unique, and you’ll be thinking about them for days.

If you’ve still got room for dessert, the Green Tea Opera is sort of like a matcha Ferreror Rocher, and the Ichigo Mochi Dome is a must for strawberry lovers.

They also make their own black sesame paste for their Black Sesame Latte, which is definitely one of the best we’ve had in the city.

Japanese Gozen-style meal set at Jumi Gozen Bar in North York

Jumi Gozen Bar

Jumi Gozen Bar offers up a unique dining experience in Toronto, and it’s the very first gozen bar in the city!

Gozen is a traditional Japanese meal set featuring a main dish, rice, soup, tsukudani (pickles), and multiple side dishes, all served together beautifully on a tray.

It’s also known as the “Emperor’s Meal”, because it was historically served to high class emperors and nobles of the Japanese empire.

Every single detail of every dish is artfully crafted by the chefs right in front of you, so it’s a very cool and intimate experience.

Their gozen set menu offering is $198 per person, and beverage pairings are available.

You can enjoy delicious dishes like grilled lobster tail, black cod, and A5 wagyu beef.

DaiLo Restaurant in Toronto

DaiLo

DaiLo serves up incredible Chinese dishes made using French techniques, and everything is absolutely amazing.

Order the DaiLo’s Choice tasting menu for $108 per person, where the chef decides the entire meal from start to finish.

They even have a Premium DaiLo’s Choice menu available for $130 per person, as well as optional wine pairings!

You can visit their stunning restaurant right in the heart of Little Italy.

Richmond Station

Richmond Station is a fancy spot near Yonge & Dundas with incredible and seasonal dishes.

They offer a $140 Chef’s Menu that changes up bi-weekly, and it features dishes made using local and seasonal ingredients.

Wine beverage pairings are available for an additional $89 per person, and they also have non-alcoholic beverage pairings for $55 per person!

They can also accommodate vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free dietary restrictions with their Chef’s Menu.

The interesting thing about Richmond Station is that tips are factored into their pricing, so they totally discourage tipping at their restaurant!

George Restaurant

George Restaurant is one of Toronto’s most popular spots for tasting menus, and you can choose between 5, 7, or 10 courses.

They don’t actually have a Valentine’s Day tasting menu, but they do have their regular tasting menus!

The 5 course tasting menu is $140 per person, 7 course is $160, and 10 course is $180.

Vegetarian tasting menus are also available for $110, $125, or $140 per person, and wine pairings are available for $115, $130, or $140 per person.

They use local and seasonal ingredients for their dishes, and their seafood is responsibly harvested!

Café Boulud

Café Boulud is a French brasserie by Michelin Star Chef Daniel Boulud, and it’s located inside the Four Seasons Hotel in Yorkville.

They offer a seasonally-changing menu with a mix of bistro classics and contemporary dishes, and they’ve got a 5-course tasting menu for $145 per person.

If you want wine pairings with your meal, it’s $220 per person.

If you’re looking to do a Valentine’s staycation in Toronto, you can stay at the romantic Four Seasons Hotel for the night and enjoy the gorgeous Yorkville neighbourhood!

Seeing Toronto from 54 storeys high is pretty dang romantic if you ask me.

Adam and I went to Canoe in the Financial District for the first time on Valentine’s Day several years ago when we were just students.

We came with a gift card and no idea about what “tasting menus” were, and we were definitely in for a shock when we got the bill lol.

The 8-course Tasting Menu is $185 per person, and wine pairings are an additional $100 per person (or $200 for premium wine pairings).

Be sure to ask for a window seat with a view of the CN Tower when you make your reservations!

LOCATION: 66 Wellington St W 54th floor, Toronto, ON


Alo

Alo has long been named as one of Toronto’s best restaurants, and they even earned one Michelin Star on the Toronto Michelin Guide!

This contemporary French restaurant serves up internationally-inspired, multi-course tasting menus using seasonal ingredients.

You can enjoy their tasting menus for $225 per person, and beverage pairings are available.

Their gorgeous restaurant is on the third floor of a heritage Victorian building, located just outside of Chinatown!

LOCATION: 163 Spadina Ave, 3rd Floor, Toronto, ON


Don Alfonso 1890 Toronto

Don Alfonso is known as the best Italian restaurant outside of Italy, and they even earned one Michelin Star on the Toronto Michelin Guide.

Their tasting menu features unique and contemporary takes on Mediterranean dishes, with concoctions like eel gelato and pistachio ravioli.

You can go for their Signature Tasting Menu for $220 per person, or order à-la-carte.

Sommelier wine pairings are also available – $120 per person for the classic wine pairings or $200 for the premium pairings.

Sushi Masaki Saito

Chef Masaki Saito is the only two Michelin-Starred chef running a restaurant in Canada, and his upscale Yorkville restaurant, Sushi Masaki Saito, received two Michelin Stars on the Toronto Michelin Guide!

Their specialty and only offering is their omakase dinner menu, which costs $680 per person.

They fly their fish in exclusively from Japan, and they change up their menu by the seasons.

If you don’t know what omakase is, it’s a Japanese tradition where the chef puts together their own selection of dishes featuring the freshest seasonal seafood.

The restaurant is housed in a historic Victorian building on Avenue Road, with an Old Edo-style interior.

They even imported a 200-year old Hinoki dining counter from Nara, Japan!
