35 Best TV Shows on Crave Canada

Looking for the best TV shows on Crave Canada to binge-watch this June 2021?

Whether you’re looking for some HBO gems or Showtime favourites, Crave has plenty of incredible TV series and shows worth binge-watching.

It’s also one of the few actual Canadian streaming services out there, and they offer Francophone versions of different TV shows as well!

There are plenty of excellent TV shows and movies on Crave, but I’ve selected ones that I personally think are worth sitting down and watching, rather than just having on in the background.

I watch a lot of TV in the background while I’m working, and if something’s really good, I’ll save it for when I can actively watch it lol.

If you’re looking for what to watch on Crave, you’ll definitely find some great TV shows and series that interest you on this list.

If you’re looking for even more things to watch on Crave, I also have blog posts on the best movies on Crave Canada and the best horror movies on Crave Canada.

Here are some of the best TV shows on Crave Canada to binge-watch, in my own personal opinion!

Be sure to also follow me on Instagram – I share a lot more content on there that doesn’t make it to the blog!

How does Crave Canada work?

The thing about Crave is that you’re going to want to upgrade to get all the best shows and movies.

I know, I know, it’s annoying – but it’s so worth it for all the great shows and movies they have available to watch.

I personally have the Movies + HBO add-on, which is a total of $19.98 a month.

You can have up to 5 devices registered to your Crave account, but only two people can watch at the same time on different devices, or three if you have the maxTV set-top box.

Kind of frustrating if you’re a family sharing the same account and living in separate households trying to stream the Game of Thrones finale, but it’s fine.

Prices for Crave Canada:

  • Basic plan – $9.99 a month
  • Movies + HBO add-on – $9.99 a month
  • Starz add-on – $5.99 a month
  • Super Écran add-on – $9.99 a month

Crave vs. Netflix vs. Amazon Prime Video

So which streaming service is more worth it: Crave, Netflix, or Prime Video?

At $9.99 a month for Netflix’s basic plan, you get to watch anything on the platform, a lot of which tends to be Netflix Originals or older movies.

Crave’s basic plan is also $9.99, but does not have as many shows and movies to watch as Netflix does.

The benefit of Crave is their Movies + HBO add-on, which features the best HBO shows (like Game of Thrones and Westworld) and the latest Hollywood blockbusters (like Parasite and Joker).

Prime Video is automatically included with an Amazon Prime membership, which is $79 annually.

Prime is worth getting just for the free 2-day shipping on its own, so Prime Video is a definite perk with no extra fees (unless you add additional channels).

They’re also coming out with a lot of Amazon Original shows and movies on Prime Video, which is cool!

I personally have all three streaming services as I love them all in their own ways, but it all depends on the types of shows and movies you like to watch!

Drama

The Handmaid’s Tale

The dystopian future nobody wants: where women are literally just baby machines.

In The Handmaid’s Tale, “handmaids” are fertile women who are forced into having children for “commanders” and their “wives”.

Women can’t read, work, or have anything of their own, or they’ll get punished (spoiler alert: it ain’t a pretty punishment).

Margaret Atwood (the writer) is a genius, and this series is definitely not for the faint of heart – it can be pretty hard to watch at times.

The interesting thing is that Atwood came out with the original novel back in the 80s, and she finally released the sequel in 2019!

You can watch the whole series on Crave.

Nathan Phillips Square in Toronto
Nathan Phillips Square in Toronto is one of The Handmaid’s Tale’s filming locations.

Dexter

Dexter is one of my all-time favourite television series, and I can’t tell you how many times I’ve re-watched it already.

The show is about a man named Dexter Morgan who lives a double life.

By day, he’s a blood splatter analyst with the Miami Police Department, and by night, he’s a serial killer who chases after heinous criminals and predators.

It’s one of the best TV series Showtime has ever produced, and you can watch it all on Crave!

Plus, they’re bringing the show back out of retirement and coming out with a new season this fall 2021 😉

8 seasons available on Crave, watch the trailer

Mare of Easttown

A detective from a small town in Pennsylvania tries her best to prevent her life from falling apart while investigating a mysterious murder.

Kate Winslet, Guy Pearce, and Evan Peters all star in Mare of Easttown!

1 season available on Crave, watch the trailer

Your Honor

A respected New Orleans judge is forced to make difficult decisions when his son is involved in a hit-and-run accident.

Bryan Cranston stars in Your Honor, and he’s just as incredible as he is in Breaking Bad (which is on Netflix).

If you’re into crime-drama shows, you’ll definitely enjoy watching Your Honor on Crave!

1 season available on Crave, watch the trailer

I May Destroy You

After being assaulted in a nightclub, Arabella’s life changes forever.

I May Destroy You is a little hard to watch sometimes due to its mature subject matter, but it’s also powerful.

Michaela Coel is the creator and she plays the lead role, and the series is actually based on events from her life.

1 season available on Crave, watch the trailer

Euphoria

Curious to see a glimpse into what it’s like being part of gen Z with all this social media business?

Euphoria follows a group of high school students as they experience sex, drugs, and life as a modern teenager.

It’s probably not the reality for most high school students, but it’s still an interesting series to watch.

The show gets a lot of criticism because it’s a show about teens with a target demographic of adults (which I’ll admit is pretty uncomfortable), but it’s still a really great series to watch on Crave.

Growing up in the 2000s, I did experience the ups and downs of social media in high school, but it definitely was nowhere near as significant where it is today.

Zendaya is also incredible to watch as an actress in this series!

If you like Euphoria, you might also like the HBO Max Original Genera+ion, which is more like a comedic version of Euphoria (and it’s also on Crave).

1 season available with Movies + HBO add-on, watch the trailer

Big Little Lies

Madeline, Celeste, and Jane are very different moms who become close friends, and get involved in a murder investigation that takes place in their town.

Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman, and Shailene Woodley play the main characters, with a bunch of other big names on the cast list as well.

Big Little Lies is funny, heart-warming, and at times uncomfortable, but it’s a great show worth watching.

It’s also based on a novel of the same name!

If you like this series, you’ll also enjoy Little Fires Everywhere on Prime Video, which also features Reese Witherspoon.

2 seasons available on Crave, watch the trailer

The Undoing

Nicole Kidman stars in another HBO series called The Undoing, which you’ll also enjoy if you liked Big Little Lies.

A therapist’s world falls apart when she discovers her husband is potentially involved with the murder of a fellow parent at their son’s private school.

The first episode is a little slow and the ending is underwhelming, but the series overall is still a pretty good watch!

1 season available on Crave with Movies + HBO add-on, watch the trailer

The Girlfriend Experience

Christine Reade is a second-year law student and a new intern at a prestigious company.

After a friend introduces her to the world of being an escort, her life and priorities start to change.

The Girlfriend Experience is an anthology series, with each season focusing on a different story.

It’s a Starz original series and you’ll have to subscribe for an extra fee to watch the rest of the seasons.

The first season is available to stream with a Crave subscription though!

1 season available on Crave, watch the trailer

The Flight Attendant

Kaley Cuoco stars as a flight attendant who wakes up next to a dead man one morning in Bangkok with no memory of what happened the night before.

It’s more of a dark comedy-drama, if you’re in the mood for something a little more humorous.

The miniseries is based on a novel of the same name by Chris Bohjalian!

1 season available on Crave with Movies + HBO add-on, watch the trailer

I Know This Much Is True

I Know This Much Is True is a heartbreaking HBO miniseries about identical twin brothers Dominic and Thomas.

Thomas has schizophrenia, and Dominic tries to get him out of an asylum while also navigating and reflecting on strained relationships in his own life.

This isn’t something to watch if you’re in the mood for something feel-good, because you’ll definitely be left feeling uneasy after every episode.

Also, Mark Ruffalo doesn’t actually have a twin in real life – he plays both Dominic and Thomas in the show!

1 season available with Movies + HBO add-on, watch the trailer

Sharp Objects

Camille Preaker, a depressed and alcoholic reporter, returns to her hometown to cover the murders of two preteen girls.

While back in her small hometown in Missouri, she also has to deal with the demons of her own past.

The show goes back and forth between the past and the present, giving us bits and pieces of Camille’s life.

The miniseries is based on the novel of the same name by Gillian Flynn, who also wrote Gone Girl.

It’s a bit slow, but it’s definitely worth watching all the way to the end!

Just like I Know This Much Is True, it’s also not a very feel-good one, so don’t watch if you’re in the mood for something more light-hearted.

1 season available on Crave, watch the trailer

The Third Day

Sam visits a mysterious island near the British coast, where he meets a woman named Helen.

They both start to experience strange things on the island, all the while confiding in each other about their suffering in their real lives.

Jude Law stars in The Third Day, and Brad Pitt is one of the executive producers!

Looking for something new to binge-watch? Here are some of the best television series and shows to watch on Crave TV Canada!

Comedy

From classic 90s sitcoms to modern quick-witted comedy series, there are plenty of great comedy shows on Crave.

If you’re in the mood for a laugh, here are some of the best and funniest comedy shows on Crave!

The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air

Fresh Prince is a classic 90s sitcom that will never get old.

Will Smith plays himself as a teen who gets sent by his mom from his rough Philadelphia neighbourhood to live with his relatives in the wealthy Bel-Air neighbourhood.

You can watch all 6 seasons with a regular Crave subscription, and there’s a 30-year reunion special available if you have the Movies + HBO upgrade!

6 seasons available on Crave

Friends

Of course, we all know and love this classic sitcom of six friends navigating life together in New York.

Rachel, Monica, Phoebe, Ross, Chandler, and Joey are all very different people, but they’re all great friends.

Friends is another one of those shows you can watch over and over again without getting sick of it!

It’s also a great show to just have chillin’ in the background if you’ve already seen it a million times.

10 seasons available on Crave

The Big Bang Theory

Four awkward friends have their lives turned upside down when they meet the beautiful and free-spirited Penny.

The Big Bang Theory is another great classic show, even though it’s a more recent one!

It’s also another great show to have on in the background if you’ve seen it already.

9 seasons available on Crave

Insecure

Insecure is about two best friends, Issa and Molly, and how they navigate their careers and love lives.

It shows their awkward and uncomfortable experiences as black women in their 20s.

The creator and writer, Issa Rae, also stars as one of the main characters in this HBO series!

I absolutely love her, and you can watch her in the film The Photograph, which is also on Crave.

Season 1 available on Crave, seasons 2-4 available with Movies + HBO add-on, watch the trailer

Awkwafina Is Nora from Queens

If you’re an Awkwafina fan, you’ll adore Awkwafina Is Nora from Queens.

Based on her own real-life beginnings, Awkwafina (her actual name is Nora Lum) struggles transitioning into adulthood while living in Flushing, New York.

It’s even more hilarious if you’re familiar with Asian culture.

If you’re into it, you’ll also like the film The King of Staten Island on Crave, a comedy-drama based on Pete Davidson’s beginnings!

1 season available on Crave, watch the trailer

Reality TV

I like reality TV, but I typically prefer the shows that showcase people’s actual skills.

Although I do enjoy the over-the-top and dramatic romance reality TV shows every now and then.

Here are some of my favourite reality TV shows to watch on Crave.

If you’re a big fan of reality TV, you’ll be happy to know that there are tons of MTV reality shows available on Crave Canada!

MasterChef Canada

Amateur cooks from across Canada compete for the title of MasterChef.

It’s an exciting cooking competition series, and it’s really cool to see home cooks improve with every dish they make.

If you like cooking at home yourself, you’ll enjoy watching the show!

Seasoned chefs Claudio Aprile (behind Copetin and Xango in Toronto), Michael Bonacini (behind the Oliver & Bonacini restaurant group), and Alvin Leung (behind R&D in Toronto) judge the competitions.

I’ve only been to O&B’s restaurants, but now I’m eager to try the other chefs’ Toronto restaurants!

You can watch seasons 5 through 7 on Crave.

3 seasons available on Crave

Canteen Restaurant by Oliver & Bonacini in Toronto
Canteen Restaurant is under the Oliver & Bonacini restaurant group in Toronto.

It’s Suppertime!

Matty Matheson is a hilarious personality, and I love how he makes his recipes so simple to follow in It’s Suppertime!

He’s a local Toronto chef, and I actually discovered him from his Toronto Life article awhile back!

1 season available on Crave

The Challenge

Adam was the one who got me into watching The Challenge, a reality competition starring reality show stars from popular shows.

While the drama can be entertaining, it’s the extreme and adrenaline-packed challenges that make it so fun to watch.

Only seasons 32, 33, 34, and 36 are available on Crave, but at least they’re on there!

Crave has a whole bunch of other MTV reality shows if you’re into stuff like Jersey Shore and Catfish.

3 seasons available on Crave

Temptation Island

Four strained couples separate from each other for 30 days to live with 12 single men and 12 single women.

The goal is to see if they truly want to be with their partner, and if they can be tempted outside of their relationship when their partner isn’t around.

I don’t know what it is about this show, but it’s just so interesting to watch – especially all the cringe-worthy moments.

I started watching it on my own, and Adam continued watching it with me because it was just so uncomfortable and interesting lol.

It’s fascinating to see how couples either grow apart or become stronger after the Temptation Island experience!

3 seasons available on Crave, watch the trailer

12 Dates of Christmas

This ain’t no Hallmark movie, it’s (sort of) real life.

Three singles meet different love interests with the goal of finding someone to take home for the holidays.

If you’re a fan of the Netflix series Love is Blind, you’ll enjoy watching 12 Dates of Christmas, which is by the same creators.

It’s cheesy and totally not realistic at all, but it’s still a fun watch especially during the holiday season!

1 season available on Crave with Movies + HBO add-on, watch the trailer

Catfish

Nev Schulman and Max Joseph help people find out whether their online relationships are real, or whether the person on the other side of the screen is a catfish.

Romance

Sex and the City

Sex and the City is one of those shows you re-watch over and over again without ever getting bored of it.

Carrie, Miranda, Samantha, and Charlotte are four successful and single women in New York trying to find love (and sex).

The first time I watched the series, I admired Carrie so much as a freelance writer myself, but I found her so selfish and annoying after watching the show a second time.

Anyway, it’s still a hilarious and fun show to watch, even if there are some cringe-worthy moments that could never be shown on modern television.

7 seasons available on Crave, watch the trailer

Love Life

Love Life is an anthology series about exactly what you think it is: a person’s love life.

Season one is all about the love life of Darby Carter, from her very first love to her last one.

I binge-watched the entire series in one day, but in my defence the episodes are pretty short lol.

I adore Anna Kendrick, and it’s awesome seeing her in a TV series role!

The show is also pretty diverse, which definitely makes it even nicer to watch.

1 season available with Movies + HBO add-on, watch the trailer

Looking for something new to binge-watch? Here are some of the best television series and shows to watch on Crave TV Canada!

Action & Adventure

Warrior

If you’re into martial arts movies, you’ll definitely enjoy the HBO series Warrior.

Ah Sahm is a young martial arts prodigy who arrives from China to San Francisco in the 1800s.

While in search of his missing sister, he gets caught up in the Chinatown Tong wars.

They also speak some Cantonese in the show, which is great for me since I’m trying to become fluent (as I mentioned in my 30 before 30 list)!

The series is based on a Bruce Lee concept, which is pretty cool!

2 seasons available with Movies + HBO add-on, watch the trailer

His Dark Materials

While searching for her missing friend, an orphan named Lyra uncovers a sinister plot involving more missing children in the alternate universe she’s living in.

His Dark Materials is based on the famous fantasy trilogy by Philip Pullman!

2 seasons available with Movies + HBO add-on, watch the trailer

Sci-fi & Fantasy

Game of Thrones

Do I even need to say anything about Game of Thrones?

GoT is one of the best television series of all-time, despite everyone hating the unnecessarily rushed last season.

If you don’t already know what it’s about, it’s basically a bunch of noble families fighting for control over the kingdom of Westeros.

At the same time, a mysterious force threatens to wipe out all of mankind.

Although a lot of us weren’t fans of the last season, we can definitely look forward to the spinoff prequel coming out.

Seasons 1-6 available on Crave, seasons 7-8 available with Movies + HBO add-on, watch the trailer

Dark Hedges, Ireland
The Dark Hedges in Ireland is one of the most famous filming locations from Game of Thrones!

Westworld

Westworld is a Western-themed amusement park where rich people come to play out their fantasies with humanistic robots.

As you can guess, the robots start to become more human-like, and they consciously remember the things that happened to them over and over again.

Season one and three of Westworld were epic, but I wasn’t really feeling season two so much.

If you like Westworld, you’ll also like the film Ex Machina, available on Amazon Prime Video.

3 seasons available with Movies + HBO add-on, watch the trailer

Lovecraft Country

In 1950s Jim Crow America, Tic Freeman travels across the country in search of his missing father.

Between the racist terrors of white America and the freakishly terrifying monsters, Tic gets a lot more than he bargained for.

Lovecraft Country is based on a novel of the same name by Matt Ruff!

Jordan Peele (the genius director of Get Out and Us) is also an executive producer of the show, which is pretty cool.

Horror

I’m a big fan of anything horror, and there are some great horror TV series that you can watch on Crave.

If you’re looking for movies instead, I’ve also got a blog post all about the best horror movies on Crave Canada!

True Blood

In True Blood, humans and vampires are trying to co-exist with one another in peace.

Sookie Stackhouse is a human with the ability to read minds, and she falls in love with a vampire named Bill Compton.

The super cute thing about this show is that Anna Paquin and Stephen Moyer (the actors who play the main characters) are married with children in real life – SO CUTE.

7 seasons available on Crave, watch the trailer

The Outsider

Any Stephen King fans out here?

After a little boy is brutally murdered in a small town, supernatural things start to happen that make investigators question their beliefs.

As it is Stephen King, it gets really dark, so don’t watch if you don’t like hearing about little boys getting brutally murdered.

The Outsider is based on the novel of the same name.

If you’re looking for more Stephen King on Crave, you can watch It 2, which also involves little kids being brutally murdered.

1 season available with Movies + HBO add-on, watch the trailer

Penny Dreadful: City of Angels

City of Angels is a spinoff of the original Penny Dreadful series, and it takes place 50 years later in Los Angeles (rather than in London).

In 1938, Detective Tiago Vega investigates a gruesome murder that leads him to learning more about the history of Los Angeles.

The series is intertwined with Mexican folklore, and we even get to see the deity Santa Muerte and a demon named Magda.

Natalie Dormer simultaneously plays 4 different characters in the series, and it’s nice to see her in something new after GoT!

While I did start off liking the original Penny Dreadful, I felt it ended up getting really cheesy, and City of Angels is actually really good.

You can also watch all three seasons of the original Penny Dreadful on Crave, and one season of City of Angels.

The show has been cancelled after one season, but it’s still worth a watch!
